    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good and not too expensive vet in the Cavan/Navan/Longford area? I'd prefer some first-hand experience..

    Thanks ;)

Dont know how near you would be to kells but Smith and Foley in Kells are very good, and one of their other branches is the Animal health centre in navan. The do small animals too in the evening in Navan.

Mohill in Co Leitrim - the name of the vet is John C Quinn @ 071 9631043 - They are always very very accomodating as to helping you with your animals and with appointments in general - have taken my guys there for the last 3 years and have come away every time suprised at the price (in a good way! very reasonable, suprised it was cheaper than I expected!) and have felt very good about the visit and all things have been cleared up and not needed another visit after - so it might be a bit of a drive - but well worth it!

Theres one just outside Longford town at Shroid, beside Fallons hardware. Longford Animal Health Centre.

My father used them for years for the farming & they were brill & my mother always brought the dogs to them.

Sheridans in Bailieborough is very good. We were there and they were really nice to us, explained everything. Not too dear either.

I'd second Smith&Foley but it's probably a bit far to travel.

I go to Virginia Vetinary Clinic on the N3 at Billis just outside Virginia. They are good and the best value I found in Cavan/Meath.

Smith & Foley are very expensive from what I've been told.

I am just wondering does anyone think some vets are better with livestock than with dogs and cats? Or are they all the same?

Depends on the vet to be honest - some vets specialise in certain areas, the vet I go two is owned/run by two vets, one is better with dogs than the other (or so I'm told), he's very good with my two, they really like him.
I think vets would get a basic training in everything, but depending on what area they wanted to go in, they would do more training in one section? If you were to be a livestock vet lets say, rather than a generic vet who'd get the cats/dogs/pets type thing.

    Just my assumptions btw
