Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help, the smoke alarm in my flat won't stop beeping, it only started doing so today, doesn't normally. Went to take batteries out but it's actually wired into the ceiling. Landlord won't be able to come over for a couple of days to fix it but it's really, really annoying and I was just wondering if anyone here knows how I could make it shut up:confused: Thanks for any help I'm going to go mad!!!!

Had this myself awhile back. Instead of beeping the alarm intermitantly went off. Tried changing batteries but this did not solve problem in the end had to do the VERY BAD VERY UNSAFE thing of pulling it apart untill the landlord could come the next day. Maybe you could tell your landlord you will get a professional out tomorrow and take the cost from your rent?

It's mains operated with battery backup. 9 volt square battery. Have look on back of detector. Mains usually unplugs to reveal battery compartment. Disconnect power from fuseboard to be safe.

OHHHH MYYYYY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY HOME IS A DEATH TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!
Your post just got me off my arse to test our two alarms. Neither worked when I tested them! Both looked like they were attached but they were not. Reattached the first one, when I reattached the second one the first started going off again. Have had to leave the second one unattached!! The first is intermittently beeping again!!!!! Am so over this over priced town house! My cowboy of a landlord that has over stretched himself on the property front! Reported multiple times that we have waterstains on walls and ceilling indicating water leaks from the bathroom, he has ignored our concern for HIS property!!! Am now wondering if the leaking water is getting into the alarm and shorting it!!!!!!!!!!:mad::(

Had similar problem a few weeks ago.

Replace both batteries and then re-connect the power supply and then you should be sorted.

Agree with rx8.he has the right answer. Replace all batteries at the same time. Couple of euro. Do it tomorrow. Remember it's your safety that's important. Let us know you have resolved this.

    Hey rx8 and Merrycat,
Had tried replacing both batteries when the problem happened last time didnt fix the problem though! Didnt disconnect from mains though. Couldnt find a CB in the fuse box for the detectors.

Am way concerned that the LL had just hidden the problem by leaving detectors unattached instead of fixing. (Had been away when he came around, my partner had said it was all ok. should have checked myself at the time!)

Hi Rx8, How do you disconnect the smoke detectors from the mains?
