Hi there,I'm looking to sort a corporate photo session for a small business in the North West. I'm getting a quote of about €500 because there is a €200 cost for the photos being taken and then because we're using them on the website, brochure and in collateral, there will be a usage cost of €300. Does that sound expensive or can somebody advise whether this is standard industry costs?

price is reasonable - however - you could probably get it done cheaper, by finding a less experienced photographer...and possibly compromise on quality.

if you have a particular image in mind - I'm sure one of the many talented Photo-Boardsies in your area would do the job for cheaper.

Personally, I normally don't care what the usage is for and don't charge an arm and a leg - I charge for the job and post-processing - after that the image is yours as far as I'm concerned....majority of my work is for newspapers and minimal post processing allowed.

are we talking a series of images -ie. staff photoshoot or boardroom bosses...or MD in his office type of shoot ?

It's for 2 directors and we haven't decided the style of the shoot yet, but something corporate yet fresh so maybe something outdoors (weather permitting). The photographer tried to impress that the pay per media per usage thing is standard corporate fare...he's good but budgets are tight.

Seems pretty reasonable to me in all honesty.

Thats a real 'how long is a piece of string?' question. Technically he is right in that he is licencing the image for different uses but I would have thought that he should be prepared to do some deal on the whole thing.

How long for the whole process? will there be hair and makeup involved in the process? (he might have to wait around) €500 for that kind of specialised service esp. when you do not know whether or not it will be indoors or outdoors (2 sets of equipment) sounds very fair. you could be looking at half a day on site and a couple of hours post-processing supposing everything goes right.

so you are talking about €500 for a days work that requires him to be a good professional photographer with a portfolio that your impressed with and have a mobile studio lights, assistant, backdrops etc to call out to your premises and create an image for your corporate material .

    Sounds reasonable enough to me.

The photographer is providing a professional service.

Payment for usage is pretty standard in the commercial / industrial photographic world. It is down to the photographer at the end of the day but it is pretty standard.

After all, I'm sure your company provides a professional service.

it seems like a bargain to me. Not sure what type of company you're working for, for 2 directors to sit out of business for an afternoon it's worth your time to make sure you're getting someone who knows what they're doing.
