Pelvic problems: Do i need to have a C section or can I have a normal birth?

    Hi everyone,
I am almost 21 weeks pregnant with a little girl :) and I have already started having some pelvis pain. I have a slightly elevated and rotated right pelvis which is caused by having different leg lengths (slightly different lengths but apparently enough to have caused this misalignment). I have had this pelvis problem and pain for many years and I was expecting that at some point the usual pain would get worse due to the pregnancy. I didn't expect to be getting a significant pain increase this early though... Anyway, I have mentioned this to the midwife from the start and she is going to make an appointment for me to see a consultant and anesthetist to get checked out. I am doing antenatal yoga to try to strengthen the area. I wanted to ask if others have had a similar problem and if so did you have to have a C section or did you have a natural birth? Also, how was the pelvis pain after the pregnancy (after c section and normal birth)? I should stress this is is not the usual SPD or pelvic girdle pain caused by pregnancy, but I guess it is a pretty similar situation... Any info greatly appreciated :)

    Hi Musro,

Your consultant will be the best to advise you because of your particular condition. I've given birth naturally after over 23 weeks of pelvic pain - it was suspected to be PGP but as it turns out it was another condition causing the pain.

There is a chance you have a combination of PGP (pelvic girdle pain) and your normal pain. A good physio will be able to figure it out and if you haven't seen one by now I'd try to get an appointment with a maternity physio asap. There are a surprising amount of aides out there for women with pelvic pain in pregnancy. One of which is a type of belt which "lifts" the bump off the pelvic area and can lessen the pain.

    You have my sympathies.

    First off congrats darlin!

I have PGP and SPD and was diagnosed quite early on. I'm 28 weeks now, and in quite a lot of pain as a result. It can be so debilitating, so you have my sympathies!

Honestly, I don't think anyone can give you a definitive answer other than the specialists. I know some women with severe severe pelvic problems are given sections, however not everyone with pelvic pain needs one.

All I can advise is to continue on with the excercises, keep yourself well, and wait to hear what the doctor thinks will be best for your individual situation.

    All the best! x
