Legal Question - probation acts are there different types

    Hi,
I am a new member here so apologies if I am doing this wrongly.
    I have 2 questions
    - About 10 years ago i recieved the "probation" act, due to a small theft offence.
I remember the solicitor saying outside the court that it did not go as well as expected as i still got the probabtion act, i thought she said that meant i had a record or a record for the duration of the probation act which was I thought 12months.
    My question is
    a) do i have a criminal record or not that would show up on a criminal check that a US company wants me to sign before i go to work for them
    b) are there probation acts given out that ALSO leave you with a criminal record. As my understanding is that a probabtion act leaves your record clean of offence once you stay clean for the 12months?

Any solicitors on this site who could advise?
Please i dont want to give in my notice where i work to be met with a disaster down the road where i have no job
    Regards
    Dan

There is section(1)(1) of the probation of offenders act 1908, and eithersection 1(2) or section 2of the same act (I forget which).

The firstone means there is no conviction, the second means there is and you enter a probation bond to be of good behavior etc.

I seriously doubt a company carrying out a "criminal records check" in ireland would have access to the records that indicate this.
