    Hi there,
I've a 7yr old who has little interest in gaming, but I've been offered the newer slimline PS2 free and I'm taking it for him - I have no clue what games to get him for it? Like I said, he's not into gaming, but I imagine he will get interested as he gets older - and he has played the PS3 at friends houses and is apparently, quite good etc. He loves singing - is there that singstar game for PS2? Can you still get them? Sorry about this, but he's my only child and this is our first venture into the world of gaming so I'd really appreciate ANY recommendations please, thanks:D

Thanks...Are they easy enough to get? I went into a certain video shop yesterday (xtra....) and was told they no longer stock PS2 games etc....the boy in the shop (for he was all of 13!!!) looked at me like I was from the darkages!!!!!

If you go into gamestop or game they should have a nice selection of preowned games for the ps2. Xtravision are pretty useless when it comes to anything other than ps3/xbox

Ask behind the counter for game recommendations and they will glady help you. (I can only suggest games like Need for Speed, Fifa, some cartoon games and what not. Sorry not more helpful lol)

The best idea is to go to a bigger shop like Smyths or a specialist shop like GAME or Gamestop, as they would have PS2 games that were traded in. You can also pick up new PS2 games in the bigger branches.

As for what games to buy, the Buzz! series are quite good. They are like interactive TV quiz shows. Also, if he is interested in sports, there are plenty of football games around, like Pro Evolution Soccer 6 and FIFA. Look out for Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and the Crash Bandicoot series also.

TBH the selection of games available to the PS2 is huge and as it is also a DVD player, you can also buy him movies for it.

Ah that's great - I didn;t know it was a DVD player too! That buzz game sounds good - don't want to appear like an 'oulwan going into those shops asking about a Commodore 63!!!
Thanks again..anyone recommend the singstar stuff? He's a bit of an entertainer and was thinking of the microphones etc???

Played the Singstar games one evening at my friends, was a good old laugh. Also look into the Lego series of games, are great for any ages and co-op so you can play along with the little fella too.

I find Gamestop are the best for PS2 games, plus the fact most are in their "buy 2 get a 3rd free" deal nowadays.

Never played them myself but if he is into karaoke, he will get a lot out of them.

As far as I am aware, when you buy Sinstar new, you get two microphones with it. As advised above, ask in the shop and I'm sure they'll help.

I wouldn't get crash bandicoot, the PS2 games are dreadful. The Lego Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Batman games are all brilliant for young kids and are co-op so you can help them out.

Kingdom Hearts, Spyro, some of the eyetoy games are impressive, Tony Hawk if he likes skateboard stuff, buzz junior is fun too....

As was said, stroll into a game/gamestop/smyths store and browse the second hand section. Games for the PS2 are dirt cheap and there's literally thousands to have a go of at this stage

    Hello goodmum

As mentioned already the lego games are very good, it seems all kids around that age really enjoy them. We got our 6 year old boy lego batman last year and he and his mates still play it now.

GameStop is very good for the 2nd hand PS2 games with a huge range to suit any kid.

If you 7 year old hasn't played the Ratchet and Clank games then you should get any of them as they are great kids games and I'm 18.

Jax and Daxter as well but I think Ratchet and Clank is better.

I'd recommend Beyond Good and Evil, Ico, two quality games.

I'd say 7 might be a bit young for anything that complex though, both games are geared towards experienced gamers...

The Lego games are built for the task (pun intended)

i just want to say that the age ratings on games are for content the same as a film, they don't give any indication of difficulty.

i your fine with cartoon violence, i'd say any of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games they fighting games so it's done in rounds so no real end ever

Probably true, but I would prefer these games were played over any generic movie tie-in piece of poop.

Grand theft auto san andreas would have kept me going nicely at the age of 7 ;)
