Is there anywhere by the O2 or near by for locking a bike safely?

I cycle into collge and will be going straight from college to the gig, don't fancy leaving the bike home and walking both.

Read a post about a car park in town that has bicycle facilities, not anywhere nearby is it?

Drury Street Car Park, not nearby, no, but you could leave it there, get a Dublin Bike to somewhere near the Red Luas Line, and get that up to the Point. Bit messy though.

Also that car park isn't 24 hours according to someone in another thread, so watch out for that.

Assuming you have decent locks I'd be fairly comfortable locking my bike directly outside the O2. (I've certainly done so in the past on several occasions.) There are chain-link railings on the quayside that make for effective bikestands/parking facilities.

It would seem to largely miss one of the major selling points of travelling by bike if you felt you couldn't bring it most places.*

    * Not that I'm saying there aren't locations where I'd be nervous of leaving my bikes but outside the 02 isn't one of them.

I'm just a little bit care full of locking the bike up, who would have though o'conell st wasn't a good place

Could take the luas but I'm still left with having to park the bike somewhere out side of the college car park.

And yes I think your right about missing one of the large selling points of a bike when you can't lock it up where ever you want in fear of it being robbed. One thing I really don't like about having a bike, really off putting.

I've a good lock (new york) and cable just wouldn't want to find out they aren't that good :p Only one lock though, skewers through the wheels and a bolted seat clamp.

As close to a (busy) entrance it is then?

Yup. I usually go as close to the Southern (Liffeyside) entrance as possible. There's some light overspill from the venue and usually a couple of security guards on the gates. (I'm not suggesting they'd intervene if anyone went at your bike but it's better than no presence at all.)

There are usually a couple of Traffic corp Gardaí hanging around for gigs, even the odd one on a bike themselves. Other than that there are a couple of car parks around. One is on the quay's (don't know the name of it), though it's pay in (€10 for a car afair) and I'm not sure if they take bikes. The other main one would be the IFSC car park.

tbh though, I'd be inclined to park it in a safe car park that you are used to, then just hop on a Dublin Bike and lock that outside.
