Window installation disgrace by window company

    Hi all,

I have recently had windows installed in a house located in Clare.
The installer <snip> has advised me that they have completed their side of the installation, but it is, in my opinion, complete dissgrace.
I have asked them over the past week to come back and repair their installation, but I am having no success
    in doing so.

    Details of problems:

    * Broken glass in 2 windows
    * Windows not sealed, can feel wind coming through cracks in walls at side of windows
    * One window installed with stickers on *inside* of glass, in the double glazed cavity.
    * One window that was supposed to be upstairs with locking mechanism, has been installed downstairs. Thus, leaving the window with no locking mechanism upstairs fully open and a hazard to small children.

I have included a link to the pictures below.

I am hoping that this would be of interest to you and the general public of the building practises ongoing still in these recessionary times - plus you may be able to help my cause and raise awareness of these installers.

    Thank you,
    Martin.

Disgraceful really, I hope you will get a bit more help now. I myself have a situation with <snip> windows roting on the bottom corners, they are only 6 years old. <snip> said that they will inspect the work and fix it if needed, I hope they will...

    First Question

Have you held back any money? are they paid up in full?

    Hi there,

Thanks for your replies folks. The more that see this and the more publicity it gets, the more it helps me.

In answer to your question Winty - yes, they're paid in full.

I know - a stupid mistake on my part, but in my defense, my builder (a person I trust a lot, as they have done lots of work for me in the past recommended I do this, as they would not have done the job otherwise. He said that they were a very reputable company...)

Mod edit - do not give legal advice - or what appears to be so

Thanks Winty, lots of photos is what I have, its on the link <snip> - I've posted them all on there.

Thanks for the registerered letter suggestion, I'll go do that right now.

    I've also:

    - Submitted a claim to the small claims court
    - Called my solicitor
    - Emailed and spoke to the producer of the Joe Duffy show for the 2PM show today
    - Called the Trading and Building Standards agency in the Limerick County Council and also emailed them the pictures of the installation
    - Posted this same article on Facebook

Any more suggestions as to making this as public as possible to more people can help avoid my problem would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Martin.

I have much experience of <snip> on new builds and find them excellent to be honest. I never heard of them doing a complete refitting service to an existing building though. Are you sure they were contracted to carry out the full installation (this would involve removing old windows, fitting new and making good all reveals internally etc). It appears that in your case, they had just fitted the window (as they would in a new build) and have left the finishing works to other trades.
On new builds, there will often be problems where maybe a fire escape is not how it should be etc but they will came back and replace complete windows without a problem.
I dont know what happened re the finishing of your job but in relation to cracked glass, stickers inside the window units etc, just make a list and get the rep out again.
In relation to the upstairs window without a lock, if its a bedroom window being used as a fire escape, it cannot be locked.
