I can't tell what's wrong with my car

I've posted about my car before. It's a 97 VW Polo and I've only have it just under two months. It wouldn't start for ages, every morning. So as the problem progressed, I got new parts for it: battery, sparks, distributor cap, and my brother-in-law even cleaned out the gunk in the engine. It was running grand for a couple of weeks, now about once a week or once a fortnight, it doesn't start. The curious thing is is that it starts no problem most of the time, but if I cut out from not hitting the accelerator hard enough, I can't get it started again. It's so specific. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?

    Hey man,
If you keep turning the engine over does it go after maybe ten fifteen seconds?

The main problem is that it's a '97 VW Polo. They're awful cars. Seriously. Back on topic, bring it to a good garage and get it sorted. Replacing random bits is an inefficient and expensive way to fix a car.

It could be the fuel not getting through id bring it to a vw dealer and get them to have a good look at it but of course it will probably cost more then its worth or it might be something very small that wont cost an arm and a leg!!!hope u get sorted asap!!!

Did you replace the plug leads?

from memory (when I researched both polo and starlet) the polo can suffer from ecu problems.

EDIT: - yeah, just checked. If its playing up and thirsty it could be a sign of engine manage system problems.
Otherwise most common fault is blown head gasket.

i suspect my escort is similar..it has been suggested to me that the Cat might need replacing (sensors are telling your engine not to work as they detect too many emissions, something along that line) I think an emissions check would verify that bit....
