    Hiya,

Just noticed today that when I add something to my basket on overclockers.co.uk and extra couple of pound is added to the price.

Example: Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB is £66.99 inc VAT.

However, when added to my basket it suddenly becomes £70.77 !!

I know the VAT in England jumps to 17.5% in January!

Basically under EU distance selling rukes, if a companies sales of goods to private customers in Ireland are over €35,000 in a calendar year, then they are required to register for Irish VAT, and then charge that instead of UK VAT.

Perhaps they have only relatively recently broken the 35,000 sales barrier?

yup, if you can ship it to a relative or friend in england and they forward it, can sometimes work out cheaper. But rma'ing gets awkward

I've had to do this a few times mainly with small things like cables and such.

    For instance.
A psu extention cable sells for £3.44 but to get it delivered to here plus Irish vat they want £16.60 in total:eek:
My mate bought it for me and sent it over, the postage was less than £1!!

Actually the fact that the VAT in the UK is going up to 17.5% wont affect us at all when purchasing from UK sites as they charge 21% to us?

    It's not going up to 17.5%, it's going back to 17.5%. :P

Yes, they are reliable. I've bought hundreds of Euro of equipment from them and I've never had any issue with them.

Oh, and as for registering, my bad. It's fiddly, but it can be done.
    READ DIS! :pac:
Just put in a fake UK format Phone Number however, as it doesn't recognizance Irish ones and they only contact by you via email anyway. [(020) 7654 3210] should work ;)

I don't think they all charge us at 21.5 vat. Just Overclockers have been doing it for so long. Its a nice way to make a little extra money. I stopped buying from them after i noticed this a good few years ago.
