10% of the bank

Talked to a Good Punter yesterday that explained his system to me.
I wasn't convinced, but he collected a lot during the day.
The idea is to start with a bank, say E500 .He bet 10% E50 on his first pick.He had it @ 1/1, so collected 100,Bank was E550.He then bet 10% E55 on the next,Fallons horse @ 4/1. It also won collecting E275.Bank E760.Had a few losers after this and when I met him later on, he said he was up E600.
Never heard of this before, but would like to test it today, virtual bank of course.
I'm going to Follow Timeform tips, with maybe Hughs or Pwe thrown in starting with E500 and bet to sp with 10% of the bank each race during the day. Mistaske calculating, fixed now
    Hope this explains the system.

Any thoughts will be welcome during the day.

What do you do after a loser, 10% of the new balance or kick on until a winner?

From a statistical point of view you should try this using 5% per bet

I think you get about 24 bets @ 10%. It's only virtual for now so if it ends quick,It will show that it's not worth it.

Should it be 10% on a 1/2 shot and a 33/1 shot equally?
Why not bet to win a percentage of you bank?

Pro tipsters are doing a lot of work for us since the internet started.
I think they will know a lot more than i ever will about form .

Basic bankroll management theory - can be used for poker too - although I'm pretty sure 5% is the respected optimum

It worked today giving a profit of E468 but would it work with real money ?..
    10 winners from 23 races.
Might be worthwhile with a bit of caution.

that was a very interseting little experiment! If i was you (and for my own curiosity) i would try it a few more times to see what happens cos without that 12/1 winner it wouldnt have been so good.

nice to see people trying out new ideas though :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 133 ✭✭markhiggins

are you going to go with it again today??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Hi qc3 I would do this for a whole week. Why? Cos every type/grade of winter race will have been covered several times over on a large number of different courses and conditions. If in a week you are still well in the money then give it go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭qc3

Thanks guy's. Working all weekend so won't be punting but will give it a go next week and see how it works out before i try cash.

This post made no sense whatsoever. The concept might sound appealing but mythical money does not.

If you go with this you might as well just give the bookie your money.

    Guaranteed loser!

Here is a tip for you , keep your money in you pocket as you will need it next year as the country goes down the sink.

Nothing like a bit of optimism eh?? Go for it qc3 with small stakes and see how you get on.

I'm sorry but what was your little test supposed to prove.
I don't see how this tested your 10% system as it basically came down to how good the timeforms tips were. Which is unrelated to the 10% system.

If every horse lost, you would now think it was a bad system, surely that's timeforms fault. Or what about every horse winning.

If you are testing this system, then you need another system to compare it too.

Next time, pick a set of races. And using Timeform tips again (or your own) go along and track a virtual bank. But don't do the 10% betting just yet, use your own way. Generally most people bet more on the shorter prices.

Then at the end go back through it and recalculate using the 10% of bankroll.
See if the amount is plus or minus.
Of course, one day doesn't prove anything. you'd need to do both systems over a month at least before you had any confidance in it.

To be honest, bankroll management is a good idea. And its also a good idea to never have more than 10% on a one bet. However, forcing yourself to always back 10% is a bad idea. As some longer prices are more speculative and throwing 10% on all the time is burning cash.

Basic bankroll management theory - can be used for poker too - although I'm pretty sure 5% is the respected optimum
No it isn't. The optimum depends on your edge. In poker, 5% is used as there is a lot of variance.
If I gave you 10-1 on a coin flip, do you still think 5% is best.
