    Hey,

    I'm in 6th year and hoping to go to NUIG next year to study Irish. Specifically 'Gaeilge agus Leánn an Aistriúcháin' I think. Is anybody else doing this course, or any Irish course really?

    Just looking for some inside details really because I've read all I can about it.

    Thanks. :)

    Howya, I'm in 2nd Arts doing Irish and Legal Science. I'm loving the Irish course. Most of the people doing Léann and Irish are from the Gaeltacht.
    The Irish Lecturers are dead sound and really do their best for the students.
    There is a great spirit in Áras na Gaeilge.
    I'm absolutely sure you'll love it.

    Cool thanks, how's legal science going for ya? :) Is the Áras na Gaeilge the kind of place where everyone is friends with everyone?

    Also I'm not from the Gaeltacht, but went to a Gaelscoil so I'm pretty fluent in the basics. Do you think this could be a disadvantage?

    Many thanks. :)

    Hey

    I'm in 1st arts doing Gaeilge. I hope to keep it on for my degree too. So far I have found Gaeilge to be fairly similar to the LC course except a bit better. In symeter 1 we had 3 different modules: Gearrscéalta, Filíocht and Béaloideas. We also have 2 tutorials a week which focus more on grammer etc.

    From the beginning, like you i think, I knew which subjects I wanted to keep on for my degree (Maths and Gaeilge for me). With this in mind I didnt bother going to other introductary lectures. This was probably a mistake for me. I wish I had given Leann an Aistriúchán a shot...now im stuck doing geography which i find hell where as taking leann an aistriúchán for the year would have improved my irish. I would say dont let not being a native speaker deter you from Leann an Aistriúchán at all!!...actually I've heard that sometimes Gaeltacht speakers' grammer isnt as correct as the caighdeán. Leann an Aistriuchan is in no way directed towards native-speakers and I know non-native speakers that love it!!

    Anyways I'd advise you to give them a go for the first few weeks and decide then...if you like Irish I've been told that NUIG is the best place to study it and I think the lecturers are sound here too...

    Excuse the rambling on there but if you have any other questions fire away!!

    :cool::cool:

    Hey one more question. :) I heard that there's an Erasmus available for Students studying Irish? Is there any truth in this? I didn't know any foreign colleges taught Irish....

    Thanks!
