Plug Pulled On Village Green’s Christmas Light
Tallaght’s forgotten “Village Green,” homed by many established local businesses, Hosted their first ever Christmas Market.
Inviting many stalls to join in this local event. This Market attracted a wide range of different traders including Continental foods, Toys, Merchandise, Giftware,Clothing, Accessorie and more..
The Market was funded by local business success Kevin Molloy of The Molloy group. Guaranteeing a well organised and outstanding market to bring life and business back to The Village Green.
Day 1 of the market was 29th November. With heavy rain and gale force winds from early morning the hopeful and optimistic stall holders began to set up. With great team and community spirit the marketers, soaked and cold, were ready to trade.
Geraldine of tv series the apprentice arrived to launch the Festivitiesandfollowed with a live interview on the 98fm Thunderbus.
Day 2 the following Sunday. 6th Dec, Spirits were aglow with the market atmosphere, despite another weather beaten morning.
Choirs sang, majorettes performed to the beat of the band, Santa greeting children, little faces being painted.
The next day, Monday. Stall holders were phoned and e-mailed to announce that the market was cancelled due to bad weather.
Not one of the stall holders had complained of the weather, however there were complaints made because of the promise that had been broken.
Enthusiastic traders trusted in organisers The Molloy Group and now they are left hopeless.
These people have invested their savings and wages on this broken promised market, these people have children’s mouths to feed and backs to cloth. They have no way of selling the products that they stocked up on especially for this market.
What began as a light at the end of the very dark tunnel that is going to be Christmas 2009, is now a nightmare for the naive traders.
Yet another “Big Dog” kicking people when they are down. Every day people at the mercy of this recession.

Wait? What happened? The market was cancelled because of the weather? Fair enough.

And now the market holders are upset because of that? Why are they annoyed with the organiser? Surely they should be annoyed with the weather instead?

How long was the market due to run for? Any chance it'll start up again if the weather improves?
