Fixing the road yourself?

A (public) road near a friend's house is in an absolutely awful state - one pothole in particular is really wide and deep, but the rest of that stretch isn't much to write home about either. Lots of people have complained to the council over the last 4 years, and they did come out - and resurfaced a bit about half a kilometre away.

Would the council be thrilled or annoyed if someone went out over Christmas and stuck some gravel in the worst holes?

there is some problem with anyone crashing at that part of the road in the future, whoever fixed could be held liable somehow. providing it could be proven that they fixed it of course.
Don't go telling the council what you did anyway.

The locals on my road here threw gravel into the holes on the road, it has helped a tiny bit but thats because the holes in the road were massive so the gravel has compacted down deep while the upper layers of it are getting pulled all over the road.

They done it before and it lasts about a month before all of the gravel is washed or pulled out, the smaller holes reappear the quickest
