After a virus is removed - help

I recently got rid of a virus on my pc (or so I thought). However, whenever I boot up, my desktop takes a long time to appear. Also, when I click on the McAfee and Malwarebytes icons to open them, they won't open. Everything else on my desktop opens fine and things seem to be running smoothly when they eventually get going.

Anyone got any info or help?

    Thanks.

What was the virus? Try rebooting again, this time in Safe Mode.
Then run the scanners again and remove the virus.

    if mbam is not loading

    1 goto the mbam folder
    2 rename mbam.exe to fix.exe
3 then double click fix.exe, update it, exit mbam
4 if a new mbam.exe is created in the update, rename the new one to fix2.exe
    5 double click fix2.exe
    6 run a quick scan
    7 press ok
    8 press show results
    9 press remove selected
    10 close log file
    11 press yes to reboot
