    Hi,... Hope someone can help me. My brother lost his wife 4 yrs ago and has 3 kids bet 5 and 9. He foolishly got a girl pregnant. They not in a relationship any longer and age old story of getting pregnant to trap a guy. Anyhow the child is 8 months old and originally he was giving her €50 p w for first 2 months then money ran out, no job, arrears on mortgage etc. He has had to move county, 1) to get away from this girl as she kept breaking into his house and 2) to rent his house to cover the mortgage. He has moved in with our mother. He receives widowers pension and childrens allowance. He has been giving €10 p w maintenance but she wants more and yet he has no access to the child. He cant afford antmore at this time? What can she seek of him. anyone been in similar situation??? All replys would be appreciated. O also what is she intitled to as a single mum?

    My advice would be for this man to lawyer up and prepare for court. Give her nothing and tell her to take it to court. A judge will decide on whether or not he can afford to pay.

    Make sure he logs every instance of harrassment and make sure he reports all instances to the Gardai. He may be able to get a restraining order against her if she is doing criminal damage to his property.

    If she claims loan parents allowance and hasnt reported that she is receiving child support from your relative, then she is committing social welfare fraud.

    Don't not pay anything. Keep giving her then ten euro per week and let her take him to court. If that's all that he can really afford the judge will side with him anyway, but if he pays nothing in the mean time he could end up with back payments for maintanence also.

    not being rude or that but how do you know she got pregnant delibertly??
    maybe there was no protection used in which case its his own fault!
    how exactly is she breaking ino his house? as in causing damage to get in or does she still have a key?
    how exactly does he expect the woman to provide for a child on €10 pw??
    nappies alone would cost more than that!!
    you say he has no access, has he not applied to the court for joint guardianship (this is free to do) just go to your local district court.
    the thing is he is responsible for the upbringing of the child as its his (im asuming there was a DNA test to verify this)
    not trying to be hard but why does it always seem to be the woman that is left providing & men simply say "i cant afford to provide for MY child??"
    as for what the woman is entitled to it depends on wether shes working or not.

    She told him she was on the pill and then on a doctors report it was stated that she was never taking/using contraception etc.. When this was said to her she tried lying her way out of it. Anyway he is accepting responsibility, he had sex with her and more than once. It was a huge mistake but at the time he was in a bad place mentally and emotionally. He does want access and due to all the harrassment and then having to up and move with his kids he has not applied to courts yet as he wants to settle his other kids as they have been threw so much already. So after xmas that is his next move. Yes I know taking car of a kid aint cheap, but nor is taking care of 3 attending school. He is now unemployed and therefore cant afford more than a tenner a wk. When he was working he wa giving fifty.

    Yes we have saved all messages voice mails, gardai were called several times to remove her from the premises..... she just wouldnt give up. Never saw anything like it! Only think is he never went ahead with charging her, out of embarrassment( thinking a man should be able to handle this sort of thing) and cause she is the mother of his kid! Tough call. I'd still have had her hauled into court.
