Summary (subject to finding small print hid away somewhere) for vehicles over 30 years old.

    VRT, no change
    Motor tax, no change

"Carbon tax": €15/tonne which is translated into an extra fuel duty.
    €34.38 per 1,000 litres for petrol, ex-VAT
    €39.98 per 1,000 litres for diesel, ex-VAT

Petrol +4.2c from midnight. (VAT inclusive)
Diesel +4.9c/l from midnight. (VAT inclusive)

(As far as I'm aware the tax point is when fuel enters the State, not point of sale. ;) )

Calm down dear! Scrappage I've put in motors...:pac:

(I don't agree with scrappage myself. Whilst I'm sure they'll be casualties, over 30 year old cars will be rather few.)

    For future classics, discuss here

Er dunno, suppose if you say a litre of petrol produces so many grammes CO2 when burnt, the you come up with a proportion of €15/tonne and bingo, you've got 4.2 cent per / litre on petrol. I'm sure it's not very mathematically precise, but an approximation.

Shock horror! No mention of classic vehicles in the budget! (Despite the annual scaremongering) :D

A few cents on fuel I can take after updating the family fleet this year.
