...and nobody seems to be noticing. From excellent arcade lightgun games like Reisdent Evil, Dead Space and House of the Dead to quirky games like a boy and his blob, Madworld, Little Kings Story, Boom Blox Party Bash and Muramasa. There's also some great imports like Sin and Punishment 2 and from the reviews and player feed back Silent Hill Shattered Memories is supposed to be something really special. Not to mention the big hitters from the big N like Punchout, NSMB wii, Jungle Beat, Pikmin 2 and Metroid Prime Trilogy. There's also a whole heap of excellent Wiiware titles like the Konami Rebirth series, a new Lost Winds game and Final Fantasy the after years.

People please stop moaning that the Wii has nothing to offer when it clearly does and makes a much better second console than a PS3 or 360 if you bother looking for the good games on the system.

Now I've got to track down a copy of Opoona :)

Sold my Wii last year, tempted to pick one up again in January to catch up. :)
No BS plastic peripherals for the next one - just 2 wiimotes, 2 nunchuks and a stack of good games. :)

The auld Wii is doing ok at the moment alright. It's got an unholy amount of crappy peripherals and games as well though. Look at an average week of releases and 99% of the releases are muck.

There are some great games in the back catalogue though. No doubts. House of the Dead Overkill was great fun but no use in 1 player mode really. Some great humour in it.

Just picked up NSMB the other day which I'm enjoying and have some friends coming over the weekend to give Multiplayer a bash which should be good craic.

So with games like Madworld which are fun but very shortlived fun I thought. I played through and completed it but by the end of it I was finding it a repititive chore. Still good bosses and humour in it as well though.

Only other game I've an interest in at the moment would be Dead Space Extraction cause I loved Dead Space. Still know that I need to have another player to get the best out of it though which isn't always an option.

Most of the best games on the Wii still really work as party games (shooters, Boom Blox, Mario Kart etc) which makes it a great companion console but as a stand alone for a gamer it leaves way too much to be desired.

You should try the other games I mentioned. Most of the best stuff on the wii is from the left field with little marketing or exposure.

"novelty" games aside a lot of the Wii games released these days feel and play like average PS2 games - at this stage in its development I wish Wii games moved away from the "OMG WIIMOTE" USP and offered some really enjoyable original titles and gameplay. Having said that I am very much enjoying Overkill/Madworld and will prob pick up resident evil darkside chronicles at some stage - lightgun games are one major advantage it has over PS3/xbox360

I also dont feel like any of the nintendo homegrown games are "killer apps" since the first wave of mario kart/galaxy/smash bros/zelda - am looking forward to getting NSMB at some stage but I wouldnt put it high priority on my list of "must buy" games

are there even any decent jRPG / action adventure games on Wii?

    Haven'tI already mentioned some?

    JRPGs:

    Opoona
    Little Kings Story
    Final Fantasy the After Years
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a new World (heard bad things though)

Muramasa: Demon Sword is also a great action fighting game but with JRPG undertones. Supposedly superb, I love the last game they made, Odin Sphere.

    Action adventure games:

    Okami
    De Blob
    A boy and his blob
Silent Hill Shattered Memories is out soon and so is sin and punishment

As for New Super Mario Bros Wii, it's one of the best games this year.

The Wii is maturing into a cracking little console, if it wasn't good enough already to be sure.
The penchant of developers to shoehorn in motion controls seems to have abated, thank the gods.
Pity the likes of Madworld didn't sell too well, but then, at least you can buy it for a song now!

It'll be an interesting 2010 as well, with a almost certain hype machine starting for the new DS and maybe even a new Wii, although the Wii is selling so well it maybe too early for Nintendo to go and bring out another console.
That said if the Natal device works out as brilliant as the E3 demo suggests, it may spur Ninty to bring the Wii2 out a little earlier, or at least show off a work in progress at the 2010 E3 or TGS.

All in all, there has never been a better time to be a gamer, Wii, 360, PS3, DSi, PSP, Retro games of every possible hue, it's fantastic!

Sold my Wii too but I would be tempted to get one again if/when a new Zelda is released, the last one was brill.

But I found myself only enjoying games that I could use the old GC control with (with the exception of Zelda). I couldn't play SSBB or Mario Kart with the Wiimote. I couldnt enjoy Mario Galaxy with the Wiimote for some reason.

I got my Wii last xmas, played it until around Feb when the novelty of Wii Sports wore off and I finished Mario Galaxy, literally didnt turn it on again until September as a mate cracked it for me so i can now play snes and nes games on it, but in the past few weeks I've been playing it more than my 360, Darkside Chronicles, Dead Space Extraction are two cracking lightgun games, really brilliant counterparts to their original incarnations, NSMBW is fantastic stuff, Murumasa is brilliant and looks absolutely gorgeous, havent played A Boy and his Blob yet but will pick it up at some stage, and with Mario Galaxy 2 on the horizon its shaping up to be a fantastic few months for Wii owners, get past all the kiddy and casual gamer dross and theres some brilliant titles on it, its just a pity Nintendo dont advertise to gamers anymore, its all to families and mums who love Ant and ****ing Dec these days

Haven't played my wii since smash bros. brawl came out, maybe mario galaxy 2 will change that because nothing has come out since then that interests me.

    NSMB Wii > Mario Galaxy

For me the wiimote is the biggest barrier to really enjoying the Wii and It was my only console for about 18 months so I did play it a lot. But after the novelty wore off unnecessary waggle in a game became a deal breaker. I still love the VC and some WiiWare stuff but very few retail games this year have enticed me, NSBW is probably top of my list on any system right now and I've been droolng over Muramasa since it was announced. And I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't played Okami. So thats three games I would love to play, I guess its really a matter of finding the time that is the biggest problem.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Nintendo have been very very lazy this year IMO and resting on their laurels. All the big 1st party titles this year (irrespective of their quality) are reboots or sequels - NSMB Wii,Wii Sports Resort, Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics, Punch Out, Wii Fit Plus. As for third party software, I don't like light-gun titles or JRPGs so HotD, DS:E and Darkside Chronicles and the rest don't do much for free. Nothing on WiiWare looks enticing and the Virtual Console has slowed down (PLEASE release Super Mario Kart already!). Pikmin and Metroid Trilogy are just rereleases, I enjoyed them the first time around.

Give me some new IPs Ninty, give me that new bloody Pikmin already and a bit more info on Metroid:Other M. And don't leave fantastic franchises such as Wave Race, F-Zero, Pilotwings and Starfox in the dark for so long, they would be prime candidates for rebootage. Although Nintendo are pleasing their investors and making a huge amount of money (by just making sequels to their most successful titles this generation) they are being very risk-averse and missing a lot of huge next-gen opportunites (practically porting Animal Crossing DS to the Wii being a prime example). I've been a Nintendo die-hard all my life but Wii is their worst console for gamers like me and by far had the worst year out of the Big 3 for 2009

Galaxy 2 is the only game that will have me spending hours playing my wii. as good as NSMW is, it just hasnt grabbed me like i thought it would. as above, it is not better than galaxy whatsoever
hated okami. ok i only played it for 3 hours or so but i just couldn't give a sh!te bout the story and just got boring and annoying so havent played it since.
my wii will continue to be used occasionally when the little lad is bored and thats about it. my ps has nothing to worry about and if it packed in id go buy another one immediately

Same here... Haven't even bothered plugging it in, in fact!
Might fire it up now and see if anything interesting has been put up on VC in the past 20 months:p
Madworld and NSMB are the only 2 games that have piqued my interest in the slightest since I stopped playing it

IGN's Ninty podcast (whatever you think of IGN.) were saying much the same thing and I would have to say I agree somewhat.

Homebrew it. It becomes a really awesome machine then.

I still need to buy twilight princess. So many wii games I missed out on.

Started playing my Wii again yesterday after getting a new TV. Been playing Okami, loving it so far. More than Zelda to be honest. (I got to just before the final fight then lent my wii to someone)

Seriously man, give Okami another go, i thought the same the first time i played, went back to it again about a year later and played it non stop for about 3 months.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade: How could this one pass me by! Cheers!

Totally agree with Retr0 - been a smashin year for Wii.

I notice nobody mentioned the two Call of Duty games though. Reflex Edition is the same game as CoD4 on other consoles, and online gaming is free!
Sure the graphics ain't as shiney but the control is the best out there and dare I say it, even better than using a keyboard and mouse for acuracy.

Thumbs up for Silent Hill so far, only an hour into it i guess.

I've spoilered below just in case but all I mention is gameplay really and nothing too specific to the plot really
It's different in many ways to previous titles but familiar enough also.

It will be really interesting to see what the psychological profiling with the shrink reveals about me and how it effects the game, didnt want to google anything about it as I didn't want it to effect my choices.

The nightmare levels are ok just not as fun scary as other world silent hill from past games, and so far involve just running for your life with a flare as your only defence, you can't fight  still pretty tense though.

The controls are much better than I was expecting but when running for your life can be a lot less accurate than you would want as is usual for wii games like this :(

One for dark room alone at night me thinks ;)
