How many wedges do you carry in your bag and what type of wedges are they?

I currently have a PW, AW and 58 degree nike VR lob wedge

Thinking about maybe adding one more VR wedge to the bag, any suggestions?

most important club in the bag
have to include a wedge with at least 60 degrees loft on it
I also have a standard SW and PW

TaylorMade Burner PW (44) & SW (54), Vokey Wedge (48), Ping Lob Wedge (60). Rarely use the Vokey because I can take loft off the PW. I do like it for chipping in and around the green though as the head is nowhere near as bulky as the PW.

That's why i like the 58 degree VR wedge, it's not nearly as chunky as the standard PW or AW so i think i might pick up a 52 degree wedge...

I think 3 wedges is the best option, it gives room for a rescue club.

    PW- 49deg
    SW- 53.5deg
    LW- 57.5deg

By narrowing the gap between the lofts it allows you carry only 3.

The 52 degree wedge will effectivly become your sand wedge then. What loft is your PW? Think most peoples SW's are up around the 54 degree mark but I could be wrong?

My PW is 46' and my AW is 50' the AW has a big chunky sole so i'm thinking of replacing it with a 52' SV tour wedge same as my 58'

    That way i'd have 46,52 and 58

    I carry three wedges aswell.

48˚ Titleist Vokey Oil Can (in replace of the stock PW from my set)
54˚ Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can (bought it 2 days ago, cant wait to try it)
    58˚ Cleveland CG12

Changing the Cleveland to vokey oil can spin milled at xmas as the head is too large on it for my liking. Way prefer the older clevelands.

Thats not keeping it simple though.....you have 8deg gap between your pw and sw then 4deg between your sw and lw.......These should be squeezed closer to narrow in your yardages

Gorfield, I take it you carry driver, 3-wood and 5 wood as well as a rescue?

    PW - 48*
    SW - 54*
    LW - 58*

Bought a 56* SW to match my set before as I mistakenly believed my old copper ping LW was 60. Gaps were all over the place and ended up never using the SW, so replaced it with a vokey 54 and seeing better results, though the bounce is too much for me to use it around the green.

And me too. Only Ive the Mizuno 18˚ mp fli hi iron. Kinda of a rescue club i guess or would they be classed a hybrid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 877 ✭✭✭blackwaterfish

    question.

i have a pw and a 56* cleveland cg12 which doubles as my Sw... am i selling myself short here not having a "set" of wedges which is so popular now.

the idea of having more than 2 wedges would gives me a headache.

plus its another club to master for someone with limited practice time between wknds of about 3 hours max.

Sorry, i assumed you may have dropped the 3-iron for the rescue. It is indeed 14.

Yup, same again here although depending on the course I sometimes drop the 3wood and carry a 5wood instead. What loft is your rescue? I'm carrying a 20 degree normally but thinking of going to a higher loft to give me a little more versatility from the rough.

Changed Clubs in the last few months so as it stands I have Ping G15 PW (45/10bounce), UW (50/11) and SW(54/12). Also have a cheap Dunlop 64 (Guessing about 10 bounce, seems to sit tighter than the UW anyway). Never had a gap wedge and really like having it in the bag. I play links golf normally (Tralee GC). The Dunlop 64 is handy when playing over bunkers etc. Was thinking of upgrading it to a Ping Tour-W 64 with a 6 bounce. (I'm gone ping mad). I find when I need to use the 64 I'm normally playing off a relatively tight lie. Any opinions? (Don't plan on ever having a 3 iron in the bag. Have Driver, 19 and 24 hybrids).

Std Wedge 48 Deg, Vokey Oil Can 52Deg and Vokey Spin Milled 56deg

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

    3 Wedges
    PW - 47 deg
    GW - 52 deg
    SW - 56 deg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,111 ✭✭✭billy3sheets

48* Mizuno PW (part of club set)
    52* Ping UW
    56* Ping SW
    60* Vokey LW

I have 52* & 56* Mizuno Black Ox too, but found the loft too low on the 56* & I couldn't use it out of bunkers.

Now if I could only hit them...

    4 Wedges

PW Callaway X Tour Forged 48 degree
    Titleist Vokey 52 degree
    Titleist Vokey 56 degree
    Titleist Vokey 60 degree

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,429 ✭✭✭Mr. Larson

    PW - 48° - (110 - 125 yds) Ping G10 (as part of iron set)
    GW - 50° - (95 - 110 yds) Cleveland CG 12
    SW - 54° - (80 - 95 yds) Cleveland CG 10
    LW - 60° - (< 50 yds) Cleveland CG 12

I've found I hardly ever use the GW - usually favour leaving 120 or 80 - rarely ~100. I ditched the G10 SW for Cleveland
