The Irish Rugby Football Union today confirmed that a full strength Ireland side will play the Barbarians for The MasterCard Trophy at Thomond Park, Limerick on Friday 4th June 2010 - Kick off 7.45pm.
This match will form part of Ireland’s 2010 Southern Hemisphere tour preparations and the Barbarians’ Summer Tour, with a fixture against England the week before.

This will be the first time that Ireland has played the Barbarians in Ireland since 2000. The most recent meeting between the two sides also coincided with the last Southern Hemisphere tour Ireland undertook in 2008 when Ireland played the Barbarians in Gloucester, winning the game 39-14.

Following the Baa-Baa’s game in Limerick, the Ireland squad will depart to New Zealand and Australia where they are currently scheduled to play two games on the tour against the All Blacks on June 12th and the Wallabies on June 26th.

A spokesperson from the Barbarians confirmed that invitations have already been issued to Doug Howlett, Jean de Villiers and Paul Warwick of Munster which will be of further interest to the local fans. The Baa-baas will be a side packed full of leading international stars with further team announcements in the New Year.

Should be cool, will definitely try and get tickets for it. :)

Presume RTE will have the rights to this game unless game is sold as a stand alone package and if so Setanta may buy it up. Hope it's RTE though.

Doubt this is going to be a Babaas team akin to the one we saw against new zealand. It'll probably be a best of the SH players playing in the NH.

Also just a little silly thing.. when i bought my tickets there the verification thing where you have to put in 2 words to prove you are human gave me the words "cheating HENRY" :pac:

Delighted to see a match like this come to Thomond Park, hopefully, the Baa-Baas will have a team full of household names, it would be great to see a few of the imports in the 4 provinces get a chance to play on the same team too.

Is it too early to start a thread on who'll play 10 for Ireland for this match;)

    I've just booked 6 tickets.:D

    Stan Wright
    Richardt Strauss
    CJ Van der Linde

    Nathan Hines

    Nick Williams

    Toby Morland
    Paul Warwick

    Doug Howlett
    Lifeimi Mafi
    J. de Villier
    Timoci Nagusa
    Isa Nacewa

Bit lacking in forwards but thatd still be the guts of an interesting all-Ireland imports team.

Ed O'Donoghue is an Aussie second row at Ulster, Bernie Upton is a NZer, 2nd row for Connacht.

Connacht have signed a Kiwi back rower as well.

Robbie Diack at Ulster is a back row too.

This should be class, doubt it will be a strong Ba Ba's team just like the one Ireland played in 2008.

Bought 4 terrace tickets, (fathers day pressie included!)
Should be a good night's entertainment. This will probably sell out with XMas gifts and all.
