Am new to Quickbooks and have a couple of queries re. bank rec.

If I want to reconcile to a later date I just tick the reconciled cheques/lodgments which I have entered, put in the date of the new rec. and include the balance in the bank account per the bank statement. Correct so far?
To reconcile do I just hit the "Reconcile Now" button?
When reconciled is it only the unreconciled items which appear?
