i would probably be photographed on that side of the track as well as i would try to avoid running over the manhole cover there.
the picture combined with the article is just a lazy attempt to milk the anarchist idiot cyclist stereotypes.
they really should point out that a f**king bin is blocking the cycle path further up.

"Man uses wrong side of cycle path". Wow, hold the front page there.
Vigilant workmen used gallons of paint to mark out hundreds of bicycles and 'SLOW' notices

Won't someone please think of the workmen.

It's a truly perplexing article all right.

It's a $hite path anyway, looking at the bollards at either side, it would be a bit hairy if two bikes with full size bars were coming at each other.

I saw a pedestrian not using a pedestrian crossing, he was outside the lines. I couldn't believe it. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO???

    OOOOOOOOH THE HUMANITY

Remember this photo story from the Irish Daily Mail, was posted here at the time? Anybody have the photo? Can't find it with a google search...

"EVEN though the Green Party has promised to take bold steps to save the planet by leaving cars at home, one Green TD is risking life and limb to save the planet if this picture is anything to go by.

For Ciaran Cuffe is seen cycling to the Dail one-handed while holding a cup of coffee as his overcoat flaps perilously close to the wheels, cogs and gears of his bike."

Can we not all agree to ignore the daily mail until it goes away?

But these people are criminals Tom and the Mail has a duty to highlight their reckless and anti-social behaviour.

I picked up some coffee yesterday, ended up walking the entire way because I couldn't indicate. Plus the windchill only cools the coffee down faster.

    Messrs Cuffe and Voodoo:

    crisis averted.

I think Johnny Knoxville may give up his day job, there's a new dare-devil in town......

Hi I'm councillor Ciaran Cuffe and this is cycling a bicycle while wearing a coat and holding a cup.

There seems to be another cyclist in the background of that picture from the Mail. I think the hooligan is cycling on the road, rather than on the perfectly acceptable cycle lane. (If the Mail has anything to do with it he's probably a welfare-sponging, immigrant ecomentalist, too.)

I like the bit in the article about Cuffe where it points out that he doesn't have lights and that that's a bad thing even though it's not actually dark because it will get darker later in the day.

From the post I linked to above:

4a) Does the absence of lights during daylight hours even need to be addressed?
4b) Who says he doesn't have lights in his bag?
4c) But what's that you say? Ther are lights on his bike? Where? Oh, right- attached to the front axle. And guess what- they look like the fancy Danish ones that require no batteries. What's next? "Cuffe undermines national economy by refusing to buy batteries"?

    :)

Returning to the original Mail article, an obvious point: is it possible to imagine a similar story in said paper about a car breaking a red light or speeding? J*sus, they'd have run a special supplement to fit them all in.

Or the everyday occurrence of people illegally reversing out of their driveways onto main roads. Should do a special on that.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong; I've always understood that it's illegal)

It's a ****e paper. Cheaper than Andrex or Inversoft though...

Ah... Mobhi Road heading south. My first ever encounter with a bike lane took place there when I was about 7...

if ya look closely at the handlebars of the guy on the bike with the cup and the coat, on his handlebars there is a mount for a light! and he was probably running out for a coffee and forget his helmet. and what else is he going to do about his coat? clear tabloid grade crap news!

Drove past this cycle path today and you could only laugh at it's stupidity. Looking from left to right(scroll map right)firstly it just starts at a random point on the footpath, then it leads you over a bridge and towards an on ramp to the M1 motorway. It just stops at some wasteland grass and you're pinned in on both sides by Armco barriers. Truly stupid.

It's hard to see any point to it. Except that the local authority/council can add about 1km to their tally of cycling facilities.

This is the weirdest bit of that for me:
If he fell off his bicycle than he would certainly face serious injury

    "Certainly"? Alarmist, much?
