Ciaran Davitt is a really nice guy, and a very good dentist - I'd try giving him a call.

Off topic but the medical card only covers root canal treatment on your six front teeth??

So if you can't afford root canal work on any other teeth you have to have them pulled??

    That's not very fair.

Galwaybabe I hope you have success finding somebody. Ask that they ring you back during the day if they get a cancellation; invariably they do and they will call you.

    Yep.

Personally I'd try and work something out in terms of payment plans or borrowing money somehow in order to keep my teeth... (obviously borrowing money off a loan shark and endangering my legs would be counterproductive, but ykwim)

Thanks for all the replies folks. Went to Reddins who sorted me out. Abscess behind wisdom tooth...ouch

A payment plan from an endodontist would be a rare thing I would imagine.

But definately yes, all for keeping the teeth:).

very common in the USA and Canada afaik...

I don't know. I've only ever had one filling (knock on wood!) and I didn't have to pay for it.

Isn't it not so long ago that it was common for Irish adults to have had all their teeth pulled? Doesn't appear to be the case in my generation, but certainly was in my grandparents. Perhaps the payment regulations haven't caught up yet.

Anyway, the other options would of course be the North, or eastern Europe. (I don't believe all that stuff about "what if you get a bad one" - no reason why overseas dentists are more likely to be bad than Irish ones.)

OP - glad to hear you're sorted, thanks for letting us know.

They aren't all that common here. It's a case of cough up and tough luck in most cases.

I think that had more to do with lack of dental advancements and no flouridation of water. Most peoples teeth were in a pretty bad way and the only recourse was to pull them as dentally there was very little alternative. Most poeple in their 70's/80's now probably had dentures by their thirties. And when they pulled the teeth they usually did them all in one go:eek:

Glad you got sorted OP, jaw abscess is a nasty dose.
