Ford Transit issues

Ok see if I can explain this in a way that makes sense to someone else, no just me.

My van when I'm reversing or stuck in traffic in 1 gear, the gears get stuck and the engine starts reeving like mad, only thing I can do is turn it off so i can put it in neutral and start again.

    Any ideas.

Also if someone as a manual for a Ford Transit 2002, I would send a SEA for it.

    thanks

It sounds like the clutch is slipping. It will only get worse.

Can it be fixed or will it need a new clutch?

I can't see how the clutch could make the engine rev by itself?

Sounds to me more like the gear linkage is fouling the throttle cable somewhere, so that when you engage first or reverse the linkage pulls the cable and causes the engine to rev. Disclaimer -- I haven't looked at a Transit for some years, so I might be talking b******s:p

    Is it front wheel drive?

02 transits dont have a throttle cable its drive by wire. is it revving when your moving at all or when its stationary? heres a quick test for the clutch, vehicle stationary, select 4th, hand brake up and try to move off. result- engine cuts out= clutch ok. engine revs up= clutch slipping. this test is just to give you a direction but if its as bad as described it will show something. PM me with the result
