LONDON, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Britain's dominant pay-TV firm BSkyB has won the right to show the majority of English Premier League soccer games in Ireland from next season until the 2012/2013 season.
"BSkyB has been awarded live rights to 115 Barclays Premier League fixtures per season," the league said in statement on Tuesday.
The Walt Disney-owned sports network ESPN was awarded the rights to broadcast 23 fixtures per season and Setanta Ireland will show 33 matches per season live on Saturdays for the same period.

The unholy trinity of Ruper Murdoch, Walt Disney and some blokes who own Setanta keep us entertained.

was hoping Setanta would lose their games. 16 a month to maybe see a United game sometimes just ain't happening.

Yeah - Sky will be able to show all the matches they have in the UK over here, same for ESPN (they only have the 23 games next season for the UK market too) and Setanta have the same crop of 3pm games next season that they only show here

When does this take effect? As of now?

How does this change though? Is the sky package not the same in the UK and Ireland anyways?

I mean there are no games shown on Sky in the UK that can't be got on Sky in Ireland?

So basically Setanta remain unchanged showing their weekly Saturday 3 o'clock match, ESPN lose around 25 games which are now going to be shown on Sky. That seems about it - there are no extra games, just a transfer from ESPN to Sky. Not good for ESPN who will only have rights to an EPL game practically every second week and no "Big 4" matches. I might ditch them next season if this is true as apart from the EPL and Serie A, they have sweet fcuk all. You cant even watch the Europa League here in Ireland with ESPN. They are getting FA Cup games but so what.

well if you go to the pub to watch a match and have 4pints @ €4.70 = €18.80

now if they show a couple of games you wanna watch you better off gettign ESPN or Setanta and saving your money in the long run and saving your health.

    Oh great 3 different subscriptions.

You need at least Sky Sports1 and 2, setanta package and now an ESPN package.

    What a **** deal

This is just maintaining the status quo.
Same as the UK rights bar the 3pm kick offs .

Nobody says you have to pay it

    etc etc...

all you need is your laptop... and the more games shown by more different providers the better more chances of finding streams or sopcasts for the games that way and watching every match your team has without giving a penny to Murdoch, Disney and that bloke whoever he is that owns Setanta.

without giving a penny to Murdoch

If everybody thought like this, the effect on English football might not be nice to watch... :)
