What items do you think are essential for when you're travelling? Say you've got a long flight, what do you bring with you to make it more comfortable/fun/etc?

At least 3 of the following:

Nintendo DS, iPod, Portable Media Player, Good Book.

A couple of magazines, as I can never concentrate on a book for long enough on long haul; Nintendo DS and/or PSP; MP3 player (fully charged).

Also usually bring a change of socks/jocks and a t-shirt - you never know if your luggage might go walkies and at least this way you're sorted for a while.

Nintendo DS, novel, Zune MP3 player, ear plugs.

If long haul: bottle of water, snacks some nicorette patches! Like MikeDragon a change of clothes in hand-lugaggage. Amazing the difference grabbing a shower between connecting flights can make.

Yeah, I'd have to have my ipod too. Do you bring comfort items like inflatable pillows and things?

I fly long haul 5 or 6 times a year, so have this one well thought out!

Inflatable neck pillow, my own eye shades, earplugs, pashmina, flight socks, totes, water, sweets to suck for my ears, my own earphones, reading material, pen and paper, baby/make-up wipes, no water handwash, toothpaste and toothbrush, hairbrush, elizabeth arden 8-hour cream, a little make-up, deoderant (obviously all toiletries are minis so they fit in my freezer bag), change of undies, change of top. No wonder I need a carry on case and a hand bag :)

Also, I always dress in layers - you never know if you will be baking or freezing on a flight - and wear very loose fitting bottoms. Plus I need a jacket for when I arrive from 30 degrees to zero!

    1 x Sony Ebook Reader
1 x Nintendo DS with homebrew Cart
    1 x Ipod W/ Noise Cancelling Earbuds
    1 x Bottle Water
3 x Contact Lens holders filled with solution
    1 x Spare contact lenses
    1 x Spare Tshirt

All this stays in my laptop bag 24/7 anyhow (Except the lens soluton & shirt) in case i have to fly on short notice.

The last 3 times I flew long haul this year it was in economy class and each time I had an individual screen with a selection of 50+ movies so I tend not to bother taking electronic entertainment gadgets e.g. Nintendo DS.

I usually take a small bottle of water and my own eyemask and earplugs, nothing else.

Ambien or Valium - cannot sleep without either.
