a strange noise coming from the back of the car...
What kind of noise? A strange kind obviously(:D), but can you be more specific?

Soon as I saw the title I though "joint" but if it's from the back of the car?
Have someone else drive it around a parking lot at slow speed. Walk beside it and listen.

Check to see if your rear break pads are wearing evenly, they may have worn inwards on the top and the brake wear indicator on the pad may be touching the disk as the load of the car is shifted when cornering

Brakes (as already mentioned), wheel bearing, CV joint.

    EDIT: or the differential
