I recently told my younger brother that, I was starting krav maga.
his reply was shure theres no point theirs no mussel on you.

My reply was I dont need mussel to be able to defend my self.
His reply is your best bet is to walk away.
which isnt allways a fact or something you can do, if some one's trying to mug you pointing a knife at you.

What his anwser was Id still walk away.

Is it me or are people unbeleavebly stupid every one should be able to defend them selves it had benefits in every part of your life from confidance to handleing more intimaddating firey people in work or at sport just because there bigger or stronger then you Your not going to be as intimadated that kinda thing.

But yeah do you find people are some what ignorent to the beneafits of martial arts/self defence?

I don't think it's important to most people. It's not terribly important to me. I mean...it's a nice side benefit, as is being fit. It's just that's all it is. Personally I wouldn't be arsed doing it purely for self defence purposes.

Best reason in the world to start MA right there.

CoD 6 is not boring and playing it is not ignorant. If you think it is I suspect you are playing it wrong!

No offence caused at all. :)

They're all really sound reasons to go training IMO.

I find it changes peoples perception of me when they find out that I get into the ring. Most people don't know what Thai Boxing is, but it has "boxing" in its name and involves getting in the ring so that affects how people view you. Visibly sometimes. You know if you're out and about and it comes up you can actually see people change sometimes. Definitely in the office people think I'm mental. If I come into work after a fight with a limp or a shiner it's worse. Also I get this "oh I wouldn't mess with him" bollix a lot. Relax there lads.....I'm not Chuck Norris.

Not really. The implication of his comment is that the OP should walk away because he isn't big and strong. The reality is that walking away is always the best option if it's available regardless of how strong or skilled a person may be. Walking away when you don't have to is the hard part.

You can't always walk away though.
Martial arts are a great way to keep fit and to find out a bit about yourself.
Other benefits include 'good for stress'
    'improved confidence'
    'healthy body/healthy mind'

    Go for it,i'd say.

That would be my thoughts on it too... Wish you could, but old Murphy's law has a habit of raising his head.

couldn't agree more, there are times that you can't walk away, if it was as simple as being able to walk away there would not be half as much violent crime against people. Most have the common sense to walk away when confronted with trouble/aggression e.t.c, but what if the attacker doesn't want you to walk away but wants to damage or harm you.

People start martial arts for many reasons - to get fit, to compete (mma, muay thai, tae kwon do) Krav maga is a fighting system designed for and around the street and the realities of random attacks and serious violence and it works, the underlying principal is turning a defence to an offence in as short a time as possible giving the defender the advantage.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to learn to defend yourself for a worst case scenario.

    Go for it and enjoy!!!
