They usually do pre-season rides in older gear -lance did most of his in livestrong garb, and you often see new riders still using their old kits when out with the new team

Most people are contracted to wear their old kit until January 1

Not the nicest kit in the world, but at least they steered clear of the white/blue/black combos that currently dominate the peloton.

Reminds me way too much of the United 95-96 away kit. Barf! Always looked like something you might wear for P.E. in and english public school:

At least it has less grey I suppose.

Ah yes, the famous kit they changed out of at half time once because Ferguson said they had touble seeing eachother.

I was thinking earlier it resembled this other travesty of football kit design:

I don't remember that one. It wasn't one of those "3rd kits" for european games was it? What a team!

I presume ye've heard that Dr. Allen Lim has moved from Garmin to The shack as well ?

Fcuk gels - potato is the way to succeed.

edit: would giving lance the same two-potatos-in-a-foil-bag serving be in slightly poor taste?

Yep. Rumour has it he felt underutilised.

Allen Lim was the person leaning out the window pouring water on Floyd Landis during his infamous stage 17: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2EyqE-pDFE ... probably my favorite doped performance of all time.
Though here's his explanation of how it could have been possible. http://www.cycle-ops.com/t-floydlandis.aspx

    also
All this makes his rumored move to Radio Shack seem deeply cynical. Even if we set aside the checkered history of the Armstrong/Bruyneel alliance, Lim must reconcile his belief that "6.7 watts is not physiological (sic) or humanly possible, unless you're a hybrid human horse or a greyhound human dog or another species", with Armstrong's reported 500 watt (6.75 watts/kg at 74 kg) output at Alpe d'Huez in 2004 (thanks to Shane Stokes' twitter feed).

Man this professional cycling business is a tangled web. Its more of a soap opera than a sport.

500k under used ! Seemingly what I had heard on the grapevine was no time for scientific research and development with the riders. Also he has cited being able to work with Taylor Phinney more closely as one of his main reasons. However I still can't reconcile Lim that was portrayed by Kimmage, with the Lim associated with Landis and now Lance..

I suppose to get working at that level of the sport and presuming you're not explicitly involved in the doping end of things, you're gonna have to turn a serious blind eye and compromise a few principles.

At the end of this interview he says the benefits gained from Doping might be achieveable by clean methods and the placebo effect.
    http://velocitynation.com/content/interviews/2009/allen-lim-clean-perspective

Yet he said 6.7 watts/kg is impossible to achieve but a guy he's going to work with has acheived it by some means or other.

But I think that's a salient point, now there is a choice, you can work with 'clean' riders, 'clean' teams, why now why cycling is at a corner, do you suddenly give up on principles and compromise your ethics, and your beliefs ?

Do I believe Lance is bad for the sport, yes in a doping sense as he believes if no one speaks about it, it doesn't exist, this causing no debate or input on how to move forward, does this omerta affect others - yes. In my eyes Lim has compromised himself beyond all reasonable doubt, if he was f*cked off with JV and the Garmin crew, there's many 'clean' options for him out there, other than Radioshack who epitomise the worst of 90's cycling culture.

I was reading recently how humans are actually pretty much top of the scale when it comes to endurance. Dogs would be one of the few species that come close. There are a number of human vs horse races which have been won albeit not as often by human runners, but I suspect over a longer distance the human would get the advantage.

Many animals can outsprint a human but almost none, if any, are actually unable to escape a human over an extended period. A skilled tracker exploits this to ultimately exhaust the prey they are hunting.

Part of this is that bipedalism is far more effecient from an energy point of view than running on four legs.

I am pretty sure Lance would beat a greyhound on a bike up Alpe d'Huez.

Thanks Blorg, if I'm ever lost in the outback and find I need to hunt some wild animals to survive starvation, I'm sure this fact will come in handy.

I read that the wolf far exceeds a human in Vo2 max terms.
