Contacts - Inside out?

I use daily disposables the odd time. The last time I was in the opticians, i asked how do I know if they're inside out or not. She showed me the difference, and to be honest, it was almost impossible to tell. She said it should look cup or bowl shaped, but the wrong way looked almost the same.

Sometimes I put them in and they're really uncomfortable for a while, and I assume it's because they were in the wrong way.

Does anyone have a good way of telling the difference?

Picture 8 in here shows the difference but if you are not experienced with contacts it can appear subtle - the edges turn out if the lens is inside out ! I find if you hold up the lens to eye level, and in good light, it's easier to see the difference. The discomfort you mention is also another tell tale sign.

Hmmm, yeah it's fairly obvious in picture 8 there. Pity it's not so obvious in reality. I'll just have to train my eye maybe!

I've been wearing lens for over eight years now and am still not sure. When the lens looks like it's the right way around, it's always more uncomfortable for wearing. Maybe it's my eyes that are backwards...

As an optometrist I recommend fitting you with Johnson & Johnson 1-Day Acuvue Contact Lenses - they incorporate an inside out marker on the lens - thereby making them easier to insert correctly first time round. Ask your local independent optometrist for further details. Hope this helps.:)

Im wearing daily disposables for a few years now. The way I was taught to see if they are the right way round is, If you are right handed take the contact from the packet and place it on the fold of the palm of your left hand, under your baby finger, and gently bend in your baby finger. If it curls up with your hand, its the right way round, if it sticks to your hand its wrong way round. Does that make sense? It works for me all the time.

My advice is similar to this. Relax your hand so you can see the palm line that ends just below your baby finger. Place the lens on this line, right at the edge of your hand. Start closing your hand slightly...if the edges of the lens start folding into one another then it's the right way around. If the middle of the lens folds in and edges start pushing out then it's inside out. Sounds complicated when typing it out but it's the best way for me, as I also used to find it quite difficult.

Here's a pic of how it will look, but it's more hygienic to use your palm rather than your finger tips:
