Has anyone hooked up 2 PS3s from one Router to play Modern Warfare2 or any other COD game?

I'd love to play online with my friend from the same location with 2 monitors side by side.

I have Eirom 7mb with Eircoms modem.

Do I have to do it through LAN and what exactly do I need to achieve this?

Uh, thats what a router is for - connecting multiple devices to the internet.

Im running 2 xbox 360s on two monitors and two accounts.
Also runing my pc and laptop, all without a problem.
We have run all 4 at the same time with no lag at all in games.
    Im on eircom 3mb.

Yeah I kinda know that but from what I read there is a problem with 2 PS3s trying to play the same game (COD) online with 2 connections from the same IP.

If I buy a static IP from Eircom then will the second PS3 use a dynamic IP and bypass this problem.

Dcully is that 2 360 accounts?
I have 2 PS3 accounts but from what I read if a connection is made from the same IP Address then one player cannot connect to the same game.

Yes i have two xbox 360 accounts, mine and my sons.
I dont have a static ip as far as i know.
You will need two copies of a game to be able to play on both id imagine, same as the 360.

This i cant help you with sorry, this is the first i heard of this.
Why is this different to the 360?

Why purchase a static address? Unless your getting an extra DSL line in the house it will not make any difference. Your inside local address will be different but your outside global address will be the same!! Why not connect the two up and see does it work before you do anything else! I cannot see there being a problem unless IW have block on their servers for one connection per IP.

    Should have explained more....
Static or Dynamic, either way the 2 PS3`s will be using the same outside address.

Thanks for that.......like you said....I better try that out....process of elimination.

I have not found anyone on the net that has done it or explained how it works.

have played with 4 ps3's on line from same router on eircom 7mb connection no bother. normally 2 playing online at the same time, normally 3 bars and if the connection goes bad, it is a hosting problem, not one on our connection.

With 2-4 PS3s....do you play MW2 with that setup in the same game at the same time??

Do you use wired connection to the router with each PS3?

Can you walk me through the setup or point me to one.....how to do Port Forwarding etc.

There is no walktrhough on this anywhere.

Do you really want to get into that though, you may end up messing up your own WORKING config, just to bring in a mate, who in fairness could just get his own connection as per the ONLINE capabilities of the game?

    Think before you leap

If you already have a working config (any NAT level), change nothing & get your friend to bring over the PS3 and try it out. If it works, great.

I'd guess you'll have no issue with normal playing, but you'll probably have issues if you try to host host due to the NAT having problems with two machines trying to use the same single port on the router (if you are on NAT 2 or 3).

Let us know how it gets on - I'd be interested, since we spend a lot of christmas eve in work playing PS3 also. It'd be great to get a couple of machines online, as opposed to just LAN.

Good points lads but 2smiggy is the guy who will tell us how it is done.
As he has Eircom he could tell us how to change the Router Settings (Nat) etc.
Mine is set to Strict btw.

As the second PS3 isn't free until saturday I want to have the How To figured to save me hair pulling on Saturday.
That plus the other guy isn't patient enough to hang around while I troll the internet for the answers should the setup not work.

Thank for all replies this far.....I am sure this thread will be helpful as there are many people who would like to hook up 2 PS3s to the same router and play multiplayer Online from the same location.

this video shows how to change from nat type 3 (strict) to nat type 1 (open) for eircom users with the netopia router. my username/password for ppoe is username = eircom password = broadband1 , you may have to ring eircom for this username/password as the lad in the youtube clip has a different username.

worked after 1 or 2 attemps for me and no more bother inviting or joining to friends games.

your router should be able to have 4 items connected to the internet at any one time (this may be more but i believe it is 4) so once no one is on there laptop etc , up to 4 people should be able to play online off the one router no problems.

best of luck with it as i live with the cousin and its handy to see where each other have been killed in HC S+D :D

2smiggy....thanks for taking the trouble for doing that....will it work wired that way too? (I will try wirelessly because it is in the same room anyway but want to go wired by preference.

    Much appreciated.

i believe it works wired also, i have not changed it to wired for a long time, but am sure i had it connected to nat1 that way at some stage. if its in te same room as the router it should make no difference anyway
