Tonight on Betfair, 2nd div French match, Nantes v's Arles.
The market was practically dead. At 85 mins and still 0-0, this happened.
See attached. Big money was offered for 0-0 on the score market. As you can see €24k at 1.39.
Then suddenly within 30 secs or so,a goal is scored. It finished 1-0.

Whats this about. I watched the market for most of the match and the money was small even by Betfair's standard.

The money offered wasn't taken AFAIK. Lucky guy!

    I made €6. :D

There wouldn't have been a penalty awarded whilst you were looking at those odds?

No, the market is suspended as soon as a penalty is awarded.
The guy also wanted to bet on 0-0. Maybe he had layed 0-0 earlier and wanted to cancel it out with this large bet.
Maybe it was a free kick, but it seemed more like a minute than 30 secs to be honest.

Where were you watching this? There are a number of people (including bookies) with almost real time feeds, as well as people at the games who are probably trading these.

This guy was betting on the score market, a draw 0-0. So if I took that Euro 27K Bet, I would be up that amount. It would make sense if he wanted to lay that amount on 0-0, that would make sense.
Maybe, for example he had say 9K on a draw (match odds -market) at evens (2.0) then this bet would cancel that out.
He was a big time gambler anyway. Lost a few bob, I'd say.

I wasn't watching the match so don't know about time lag.

It couldve been that someone was sent off maybe???
Or also a free kick or a corner.

Strange sort of activity on it alright.

You sure the market is supended when a penalty is awarded - I thought this was only on Live televised games which I assume French second Div wouldn't be?
How would anyone in Betfair HQ know that a penalty has been awarded?
