Just purchased one of these today for a Christmas Present, for €480.

I can't find the exact model now as one of the parents have wrapped it, but I'm just wondering, in general, what are emachines like?

It's basically just going to be used for browsing the web and running an ethernet cable through it for Xbox Live.

    Thanks for any replies.

bought an emachines pc from pc world afew years ago, day 366 it imploded, hard drive went, optical drives failed, bad bad buy. wasnt long fixed and it died again, nice ornament now.

not that acer are the be all and end all but you'd assume they would employ some level of quality control on newer machines.

They're built to a budget, a cheap one. If your recipient has fairly minimal needs IT-wise,it will probably suffice. Actually (dont get me started) if so, anything made in the last 5 years should do. And if theres a good warranty, great. I tried fitting an extra optical drive to an e-machines tower PC a couple of years ago, and the cable (which had the expected 2 plugs on it) wouldn't reach.
