Spray paint kitchen cabinets - who could do it for me (in Cork or Munsterarea)

I'm considering re-invigorating my kitchen by getting the faces sprayed in a new colour. Existing cabinets are solid wood (or well disguised) with a cherry stain, and I'd now like to replace with a solid color in a mid to gloss sheen.
I'm aware of one outfit in Dublin (Designer Spray) but there must be a few in the Munster region too?
As an alternative I looked at 1 or 2 Kitchen suppliers who could supply replacement doors but the colour choices are quite limited.

Are your existing Kitchen Doors Solid Wood, Painted MDF or Vinyl Covered. Make sure you know the answer to this before you go spraying. You may also need to wash all the doors down with Sugar Soap and hot water to get all the grease and grime off them. So depending on what type of door you have at present this is important as you do not want the new spray peeling later on! Remember the Grease in the steam gets everywhere. Just put your hand on top of your kitchen above the wall units to see what I mean. If you want any more details I can PM you with a guys name on Spraying. Let me know by PM.

You could do them yourself no problem. Get a product called ESP to prepare the surface, Special product for melamine etc. Ready to paint shortly afterwards. I used Farrow and Ball water based wood paint. Non sticky paint. A little dearer but well worth it. You re getting the effect of a new kitchen at a low cost

    Hi There
Be patient this is my first post , I called into a paint store in the cork area before Christmas with the same question regarding painting my " White " Kitchen . They gave me all the advice that i needed and the right products and were able to talk me through on how to do it. I tryed this during the Christmas break and im no Artist but it turned out great , i think for all the paint/Brushes it was less than €100.:cool::cool:

    Hi,

My advice would be to go for a handpainted finish over a spraypainted finish. If you damage a spraypainted door or panel and scratch the paint, it needs to be stripped back and re-sprayed. On the other hand, with handpainting, you can touch it up yourself. There are painters out there specialising in handpainting kitchens or if you are handy yourself you could do it. A handpainted finish gives a very luxurious look and will completely transform your kitchen, especially as you currently have dark wood. If you need the name of a local specialised handpainter then you could ask a local kitchen manufacturer and i'm sure they will provide the name of the handpainter they use.

Would if I could, but little bit too far for me, living here in Denver. If wooden cabinets, factory painted or varnished, we use a special primer that actually saves many hours of prep. by not having to sand or scuff slick finish before hand, giving paint something to grab a hold to. That primer is called XIM, and has such bonding grip, you can paint Glass or Formica with it. Top coating with a high grade latex, and will not scratch off! ;) Good Luck!

    Reading this thread with interest.
I have 10 yr old spray painted MDF kitchen doors and some have water damage ie the MDF is swollen/exposed on a few. I love the colour and would try and replicate. Is it possible to sand down the damage? One chap told me not worth doing....

    To Annieoburns.

I would consider trying to repare the swelling in the damaged doors. Basically, MDF practically tears apart and hence the swelling. Why not get a local supplier to make you a new replacement door. It may only be a matter of routering out a design in the MDF but without seeing it I cant be certain. They don't need to spray as you will be painting it, it so it shouldn't cost too much. Hope this helps and let me know if you need anymore advice.:)

    To annieoburns,

Hi just say that I put in that I would consider repairing the door when in fact I meant to say I would not consider it.

    Sorry for the error.

Hi - also looking at painting kitchen cabinets. Is cream really hard to keep clean?? Is it a tough job to do and what products would you recommend....Anyone know someone in Galway are that would do it? I am not a painter and wouldnt have patience. Cheers!

    Hi Shigg,

Cream painted units are not hard to keep clean because you would be putting a protective glaze on over the paint. If you ask some local kitchen manufacturers they might give you the name of the handpainter they use and you could contact them.

If you want to watch a video showing you how to paint kitchen units then go to www.kitchenindex.ie/retail/painting-kitchen-cabinets-video.aspx

The video will show you the process of painting existing units and what is involved.:)

    Hi,

I was just wondering did you ever get sorted and what is involved in painting solid wooden doors. Thanks.
