    Hi
Some Chinese company seems to be sending emails from my hotmail account using my email address to everyone in my contacts list. Is there anything I can do without having to close my account and open another one.

First thing i'd do is change my password and security questions

I did that and I have since found another one in my sent items. Can I do something else?

the same thing has happened to my hotmail account

I suggest that you change the password to a strong password ( combination of uppercase characters, numerics etc. )

haven't noticed any other emails being sent in the last 12 hours.

out of interest do you use your phone to check Hotmail?

i don't know if that caused it .. there appears to be some debate as to what is causing this

    re phone:

i have only recently started to check my hotmail from my phone ( not to send them mind you )

it is set to "remember me/log in automatically" on my phone , whereas on my PC i am always prompted to enter password before I access my hotmail account.

I was logged in to hotmail from my PC when the spam was sent.

first time I have ever been affected by something like this, perhaps I have become complacent over the years.

have strenghtened all my passwords since and performed a full onelive scan, full malwarebytes scan and also have Avast running and nothing has been picked up

This exact same thing has happened to me today... trying to sell 3g phones sent to everyone in my contacts twice! Anybody know how to stop it?

change your password to a strong password . i.e. one that contains numbers upper case and lower case characters etc.

eg: your password is "jollyman" change it to "J0llym@n"

Just after coming across this problem with my sisters hotmail account. She has not received any email since 14/01, I tried sending an email from my account to hers but she still cannot receive any. I have changed the password and security question in her account. How can I get her account to receive emails again please?

the exact same thing happened to me - apparently I was trying to sell everyone phones too. I never use the hotmail account, and do not have a contacts list - I figured out it was being sent to my list of instant MSN contacts (the only reason I created a hotmail account was to sign up to instant messaging). I re-installed that and everything has been ok since.

Thanks Avalon, i changed the password and the security question, and she is receiving emails again. I just have to find the last 11 days' emails now.

Eventually got it sorted. Changed password and turned off open messenger automatically on startup. Seems to have stopped them.
