We're having a bit of diffucilty finding a first dance song that we both want.

So I'm thinking of Lost by Michael Buble. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMCu6YgRLeM )

What do people think of that? Is it too depressing, tacky etc?

    Any feedback appreciated. Thanks:)

Id never seen the vid for it before, most people would kind of know the song but not the vid. I thought the vid is a bit depressing :o but the song is about the right pace for a first dance, sure if ye like it go for it.

I wedding DJ and get asked to play Bubles 'everything' more then any of his other songs.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeKtB2EhdaE
    It usually works well

Heres some songs Ive been asked to play over the years. If brides dont have something picked going into the last couple of days I show them these before any others and they're usually happy to pick one.. (warning -- the following is a take that free zone)

Van Morrisons Into the mystic, I cant find an original of it on youtube, but I know he hates all his stuff up there. lots of covers of it though.

stars go blue, corrs and u2

the live version of it better

    embrace -- my weakness
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpV4lxZXqYo

nothing gonna stop us now - starship (cheesey as hell but everyone knows it and loves gettin on the floor with you near the end with it)

the main chorus is a nice sentiment of being together etc., but the rest of the lyrics IMO are about a love lost, and i don't think they are really the right sentiment. but that is just my opinion.
also, it is prime for the embarrassing 3 minute shuffle rather than being actually able to dance to it.

Thanks Clint, plenty of info there - although haven't had chance to go through it yet. Thanks again:)

But then just wondering, how may of the guests actually listen to the lyrics, never mind try work them out!

And it's at a decent pace for dancing (myself and the fiance have never danced together and don't have a clue how to!)

Do ye reckon it's an acceptable song to use:)

well we went for Michael Bublés everything, and a good few of the guests did actually comment on what nice lyrics. but even leaving that out of it, I suppose it depends on how romantic or whatever you want it to be. Do the lyrics mean something to you? do you like the sentiment? if so then that is all that matters. for us, it wasn't about what the lyrics meant to others, but that they meant something to us, and that it was a song we would be comfortable dancing to. We picked that song because it came on the radio one day and we both just looked at each other and said, I love that! so that was our choice!
We were the same as you in that we had never 'danced' together other than a shuffle slow set here and there! that is why the thoughts of standing in a spotlight shuffling around for 3 plus minutes filled me with dread! because of that we chose something more upbeat so we could move a bit!

A friend of mine hated the thought of a slow shuffle and all attention being on her like that, so they insisted that some guests join them on the floor after a few bars. The DJ was instructed to make sure guests knew to join in, and bridal party were prepped on the fact that they MUST join in! she said it was still very nice to have a 'first dance' but she wasn't half as nervous or embarrassed!

I usually get asked to play 2 and get the rest of the crowd up when the 2nd one comes on. You dont have to have 2 though, 1 is fine. Most brides (and more importantly grooms) are nervous and ask for the crowd to be up half way though.
If its a slow shuffly effort, then its a bit awkward for people to get up to, if its a bit like bubles "everything" (jsut as an example, listen to the faster pace of it) then people dont mind and are a bit more at ease and are even eager to get up and dont have to have me over the mike goading them on.

The words dont mind too much, theres loads of quirky songs that are great that people have never heard but once the music is good people will dance away.

While we like both songs, I'm not so sure about it as first song.

We had originally picked You're My Best Friend by Queen, but we thought against when we realised we can't dance to it!!!! (great lyrics to it)

We had "Come Away with Me" by Norah Jones. "You and Me" by Lifehouse was the second song.

ha no , haven't heard of the program... probably wouldn't be a good first song if polygamy was the first song to come into peoples heads.

ok scratch out "God Only Knows"

my suggestion is - "it's only time" by the Magnetic Fields

lovely choice ;) hadn't heard that one but their '69 love songs' was a great album.

I wanted Nick Cave 'Into my arms' for our wedding last year but as we had a swing band and went with 'I've got you under my skin.' A compromise but, sure that's what marriage is about!

we had Iron Maidens Blood Brothers for our first song :D

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

    Bumping this again.....

We've given up on the idea of a Michael Buble song.

But now I think we've 90% settled on Chasing Cars by Snowpatrol.

    Anybody any thoughts on this?:)

    Acceptable, good idea etc etc.
