I hope this is the right place to post this, if not, sorry.
Basically I spilled water on my (it had a tiny amount of blackcurrant in it), I dried it as best I could and left it off for 24hrs. Next day only half the keyboard worked, left it off another day and some of them were working again.
Now a repair guy has quoted me €75 for keyboard and €99 fitting and cleaning the laptop. Do you think the rest of the keys might come back eventually? I really can't afford the guts of €200 just before christmas:(

Pitty your not in dublin could have fixed it for next to noting you cant tell if they will come back but chanses are they wont it does not cost that much for a keyboard for a laptop and they are easy to fit i would not pay that much for a keyboard on a laptop its a rip of

Ps what is the model of your laptop

take the battery out immediately, I know its 24 hours since it happened, but better late than never... your supposed to do this the minute it happens. Leave your laptop in an airing cupboard for a few days. Dry out any moisture that you can from where the battery is kept, also remove the hard drive and do same proceedure. You might be lucky at this late stage, but Id say some things have already shorted out re your keyboard... hope it works out for you

Thanks everyone, my laptop is an advent, don't know the exact model, the repair guy has but I'm collecting it again later because I can't afford to get it fixed at the minute.

This happened on thursday night so it's been drying for a good while, I don't think the repair guy turned it on at all so I'll check now when get it back. He said the motherboard etc need cleaning and I could damage it by using it in the meantime?
I was a bit worried about taking it apart myself, don't think I'd have a clue how to put it all back together!

Laptop keyboards can get pricey. Laptop components in general, can get pricey. Especially OEM parts like the keyboard. So while the keyboard is probably somewhat marked up by yer man, its probably not outrageous. Nor is the cost of labor to disassemble, replace and clean. Its a lot of money but unless you feel safe dismantling your laptop and going at it with cotton swaps or something, you could really save yourself a lot more time and stress there by paying him.

I know, your right. He said advent keyboards are more expensive than others. I'll just have to leave it till after xmas and prob get an external hard drive to keep photos and stuff on from now on, I wouldn't chance opening it up myself.

you could also pick up a usb keyboard for less than €10 and use that instead of the buily in keyboard for now, see too if they do a keyboard replacement for your model on partmaster.co.uk
