BT adsl2 24mb down to 1 Naas

BT business broadband customer support seem to have downgraded themselves as well as their service. After having an average of 16mb for over a year from them the service suddenly dropped to less than 1mb last week. We contacted them keeping an open mind that the problem could be our router or a range of possibilities. Their response was to tell us that our line is only capable of 1mb? We wanted to escalate the problem but after consulting with his boss the customer service "boy" told us that is all the line was capable of and there was nothing they could do. Our business needs a lot more than this to perform day to day operations as we are a technology company with servers around the world we need to connect to. We then phoned accounts to make sure we were out of contract as we would have to switch to another provider quite quickly. They informed us we needed to give them 60 days notice.

Have BT gone crazy or are other people experiencing this type of response from them? We were happy with the service when it was working but the level of uselessness when it's not working is staggering.
