Why would anyone pay for stuff like this when there are perfectly adequate (better even) free alternatives. Or am I missing something?

Good deal, second best anti-virus you can get in my opinion, eset smart security being the best.

    Your missing nothing.

I first got Kapersky after a post here in BA 2 years ago. It is the best AV I have used ever so decided to get again this year. That is not to say that Avast, AVG etc all do not have their merits.

    Each to their own.

Hehe I don't want to get into an arguement, just giving people some other options that's all but still have to say that starting from 2009 version Norton got a lot faster.

And one more tip, in general you can find most of the Internet Security/ Antivirus suites' 2009 versions cheaper and they can be upgraded to newer versions without any problem.

Lol lets agree to disagree Kaspersky has a lot leaner and meaner engine then Norton or Mcaffee, used to repair pc's full time and always advised users with Norton to remove it to speed up their machines and always went with Kaspersky trial on their machines and they always came back to purchase full package, I agree with you on picking up say KAV 2009 all you have to to do is go to the KAV site download the latest engine (2010) and activate it using the 2009 licence. Another cheaper option is to use g2play to buy the licence dowload the engine from the Kav site and use the g2play key to activate it their pricing is as follows
    Kav AV 2010 1 year licence €12.49
Kav Internet security 1 year 3 licence €16.49
Kav Internet Security 1 Year 1 Licence €10.90

I've bought games from them before like the Sims2 and Steam packages without any issue

Here are actually some tests on how the best AV's match up
    Another boardsie posted it up.

Avast is in the top tier conclusions. And it's free

I use the free version of Avira and would love to know how it compares to the paid version. What's very clear from those tests is how poor the majority are. Some appear to be near useless?

I'd love to know how the people that have commented on how good KAV is came to that conclusion. Have you done your own tests or are ye solely basing your views on ease of use?

We are really going way off-topic here.

I have used AVG, Avast, Commodo and KAV. Avast and KAV their would not be much between them in terms of not full of annoying pop ups and they both update themselves with no fuss to users. I've not got any deeper though is terms of memory usage etc.

I've used Kaspersky for 2 years now - and it's the best AV I've ever used.

No annoying popups. Seems to be very memory efficient. I've never had any issues with virii. I'd highly reccomend Kasperky Internet Security 2010 - and at 1/2 price - it's a bargain.

Kaspersky user for 3 years - very good product, never had a virus.
The only annoying thing is that, when installing new programs that want internet access, KAV doesn't prompt you to allow the program access. It just silently refuses the app access and you have to go rooting around looking for the .exe files and manually add them to the firewall.
Has anyone else found this ?
