    Has to be sorted :D

I would get a pain in my hole if that kept happening.

So Specs? Driver versions and game settings :)

I had serious stutter (still do unless i put video memory on low)

I play 1600*1200 everything on high with PP on medium and that shader mod. View distance at 3500 can put view distance up to 10000 but it runs at 20fps, 7500 is 40fps, i like 60 so leave it at 3500 :)

Do you get an error when it CTDs? Does event log say anything?

    Jaysus,cheers for offering to help.

    Windows 7 64-bit
    Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 1gb (195.62 driver,have tried rolling back,no joy)
Arma 2 - latest beta version

Have tried Video memory to default and high, disabled post processing, disabled v-sync for Arma 2 in nvidia settings, disabled hyper-threading in my bios settings. Fiddled with loads of stuff as suggested on BI forums (have posted there and on nvidia forums asking for help).Run it @ 1920x1080 which is my monitor default, view distance up to 3500. Runs likes a dream, 50-60 FPS.

Problem is it doesn't CTD, the system locks up completely and the monitor goes into power save mode so I have to power it off and off every time, cringe every time I do it as I'm waiting for the day I turn it on and it doesn't work.

Event log - don't have a clue how to even check it.

Vaguely remember painKiller doing something similiar, i had to set my monitor to never turn off ever in CONTROL PANEL/ POWER

In Control Panel there is a shortcut to ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, in that is EVENT VIEWER. Its slightly changed in Win 7 :D

Next time is crashes go into that and match the time it crashed with whatever you see around then. Should be loads or warnings or errors.

Hopefully you have a big red X at the exact time it crashes. Then you have the DLL and EXE and problem they having.

You can also before starting a game go into CTRL ALT DEL and go into Task manager (win 7 has some excellent logging options) and turn on the advanced logging. That can help see if something is spiking GPU/CPU RAM etc:

 Just start typing "event viewer" in the search box ;)

Yeah one of the very first things I did was set it to 'never turn off'. I'll have a look for the event logs.

Someone mentioned the evga GTX 275 285 295 cards go into a low power mode which they can't come back out of for some reason hence the power save thing.

Dunno why the whole system locks up though, the same problem does happen with the Witcher as well if I remember correctly, but that was on my old build. It's quite annoying as I built it for Arma, yet it's probably the only game I have a problem with. And I know when the ACE mod comes out I'll end up setting fire to myself out of frustration (maybe).

Presume You mean lower mode, I'd say You prob can but Unwinder (maker of Rivatuner) seems to be concentrating on Msi Afterburner lately, not Rivatuner as Msi are paying him for his time.

Event log for each time I crash. Complete jibber jabber to me.

Faulting application name: nvSCPAPISvr.exe, version: 7.17.11.9555, time stamp: 0x4afe4879
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

    Faulting module path: unknown
    Report Id: 0f45f638-df6f-11de-b320-002618a8f7eb

No results when I click on the online help thing. I have the MSI program thing but can't figure out how to enable the 'run 3d mode all permanently' option.

"nvscpapisvr.exe is part of an executable from NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service".

I think you are dependent on a new driver to fix it. You could also try setting up a special Arma ii partition running XP to see if it is a conflict between the nvidia driver and 7.

    Thats what I'd try anyway.

Try run it with extra priority in task Manager

right click on it after you ctrl alt del and give it above normal priority.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

    Disable Stereoscopic 3d and PhysX.

Have You tried right clicking the shortcut and running it in Xp Sp3 mode? Tried the -WinXp paramater in the shortcut?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 397 ✭✭cashville

Yeah I tried the -winxp thing before, no difference. Have PhysX disabled the last while, will try the priority thing.

Cheers for the advice kenon, wouldn't have a clue how to do what you're saying though.

    *just had a look stereo3d wasn't enabled.

What are the default Win 7 drivers like anyone tried them?

Might be an option uninstall your card and and let windows install its own driver and try that, may not be great tho.

Windows update will find You the latest automatically, it actually does what it should now, You can usually trust the driver it finds as being right and the latest

Maybe also try a tweaked driver

check your add remove programmes for an entry called NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3d Driver. Uninstall it there. Shouldn't have an effect unless you use the glasses!

nvdisp.ddl has caused a general protection fault in 2004 with Bf2 turned me off nvidia i mean 67 drivers later and it still ****ing happened. that fcuking loop error with my 6800GTXs in SLI pissed me off bigtime.

its time for the final solution www.ati.com :D

I have a 4870 512mb play at 60 fps 1600*1200 everything on high except video memory on low which forces texture detail to medium.

Nearly sure pog has either a 4870x2/4890x2 and plays it on 1920*1080 with everything on awesome high.

So anything better than those is a good thing, the 5870 is too much for my purse but was gonna Crossfire 2 4870s but being cheap and only really playing Arma i gonna wait it out for the 5870 to drop in price.

A 4870 with 2gb and OCed to the max would run this game very well, but it depends on your monitor and what res you play at. 4870s and 4890s are budget cards at this stage.

I had a bug in Crysis where whenever I got a msn message it went to windowed mode, could be something running in the background, the shortcut to get out of windowed mode is alt + enter
