PS3 Problem

A mate of mine was updating his firmware, but update went bad for some unknown reason. It keeps looping etc and got error message 800F1CO . So he thought it was the HD, put new one in and nothing, not even will it format.

I got his old HD from him and formatted it in Fat32 and put it in his to see if that could do it but no joy.I then put the old HD in my new slim Ps3 and updated the HD through a cd I made up, (Had to do bloody same with mine when I put back in my HD)...

Anyway I popped his old HD into his and nothing, scratching my head here. His PS3 is the old type (60gig)....

Anyone and ideas....There is no Ylod or anything like that...Thinking maybe the half botched update fecked up something in bios maybe??

Have tried the reset thing but nothing also....Green light comes on for 1min maybe then goes red(standby)......

Just do a reset of the console back to factory settings. Should get rid of it but might not. Don't know if it will restore original firmware.

Usually a hard reset will do this and there is probably a way to do it for PS3.

the updates are updating the OS stored localy somewhere on an internal chip inside the PS3 so updating with the HD in a different machine is not going to do much.

I'd agree with you though that it's a problem with the Bios or at least corruption of the OS since it's not starting up at all now.

It happened during the update so it's technically sony's fault, maybe if you make enough fuss they'll fix it for free.....unless it specifies in the TOS that you update at your own risk or something :(

stupid question - are you doing the hard reset correctly?

also googled the error code you quoted, did not come back with anything?

Yeah did the same with code and got nothing, it said to contact sony. But I dont get that anymore just the black screen..Will give the hard reset another go but I dont hear the two bleeps when I hit On button after the second time...

Can't be the Hd as it was working in other PS3...

Edit: Nah just tried the hard reset there....Dont get two beeps, it just goes to standby....I wonder can you get the Ylod even without the yellow light showing up?

thought the YLOD was just a genral hardware fault indicator, if the hardwares ok you won't get it but if there's some software problem, like the OS, maybe it doesn't appear.
