Electric Guitar for 6 year old

Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong place but our 6 year old wants an electric guitar for Christmas. I don't know anything about guitars, but would like to encourage him. Is 6 too young for an electric guitar and if not does anyone have any advice as to what to get?

Definitely not too young to learn, I know people who started learning younger and I started on the violin at that age.

Thing is, it's hard to get an electric that size, I know argos did one and probably still do, with a built in speaker, but it was impossible to tune and sounded like crap - I taught a young lad who had one and it wasn't fun for anyone. It's a sure way to put someone off an instrument, young or old.

If you can convince him to look at an acoustic guitar it would probably be better, and easier on your ears!

Waltons do 1/2 size classical guitars, which have soft nylon strings, so no finger pain!

Ive seen tiny electric guitars, probably half size or less in smyths toystore in tallaght if your in dublin OP, and they were pretty good too!

Thanks for your feedback. From other discussions and conversations, I am tending to lean that we should try to talk him into a acoustic guitar. I had a look in Smyths at the weekend at its electric guitars and I was not convinced.
