Driving lessons - Up North?

    Hi all,
I have my learner's permit but I have yet to do any lessons. I am in university in the North and only go home about every second weekend or so.
I could do a lesson at home at the weekends but I have been thinking about taking lessons up North.
Obviously the test is different up here, but driving is the same! Do you think I should learn the basics up here and then do more advanced lessons down south?

Or would I be better doing all my lessons in the south?
    Thanks in advance!

Your learner permit isn't valid outside of the republic of Ireland, so unless you applied for a UK provisional license when living up North it's not really feasible.

Your permit doesn't allow you to do any driving up North. You'll have to get a Northern Ireland provisional licence to get lessons. And if you pass the test up there you go onto R plates and are restricted in engine size and speed for a while after the test.

Lessons shouldn't be any different but make sure you have a valid licence if getting lessons there. I would get a few pre tests off a local school if you do get your main lessons in NI, as the local school can show you the routes used.
