i'm 28 palying golf for the last 12 years, join a club this year. handicap is the same for the last 2 years 15.6, sometimes i'll shoot 44 points then i'll go out and shoot 32, 34, i'll avg about 36 each round, so i just think its time to change my hurling grip, i live only 5 mins from carton house driving range so i can pay it a visit pretty much every evening if thats what it takes, all advice will be taken on board, would love to hear from someone who has changed.

"bandit" shootin 44 points. Changing from the hurlin grip is an absolute must in my opinion if your really serious at become a single figure golfer. You have two choices, overlapping or interlocking. I played with interlocking for the first few years but changed recently to overlap and its been very beneficial with keeping my hands out of the swing. This helps with my distance control

Go to a coach for a couple of lessons, he'll give you some tips

I used to have the hurly grip in my teens and the only way I changed it was by hitting ball after ball after ball on the range. Its the only way. I wouldnt bother with a lesson from a pro or anything like that because you need to hit loads of balls to get used to the feel of it. Half an hour with a pro wont achieve that. At the moment you prob feel that your golf swing is natural and fluid but when you get used to hitting the ball with the proper grip you will realise that your hurly grip is actually restricting the flow of your swing. Changing to the new way will feel strange for a while but stick with it, it will be worth it in the end. And no better time to start either. By the time the winter passes us and the golf season starts again your hurly grip will be a distant memory.

I played cack handed as a teen too. Then changed to interlock, then to vardon which im using now still. Just get a instruction book or look up the correct grip on the net & keep swinging til it feels natural :)

there is a grip trainer you can purchase which you can hold while watching TV and it keeps your hands in the correct grip might be worth a look in the pro shop

I am not sure if you can purchase them here or not. Maybe McGuirks Golf or someone like that might stock them.

Even if you can't get to the range, just swinging the club in the garden will have the same effect. It'll become natural a lot quicker than you'd think.

I changed my grip last winter too last winter,it's the best thing I ever did OP.
Persist with it, it's going to feel so alien for a while.
I found once I got any bit of consistency going, I enjoyed the game so much more.
It's far easier determine what you're doing wrong on the conventional grip, and adjust too imo.
