How move Canon FlexiZone ES8000V to laptop for editting?

    Hi all,
I recently borrowed a camcorder - a Canon FlexiZone ES8000V - and aim to record a couple of events and then edit them on my laptop.
I have looked online & see that a Firewire - plugged in to the camcorder & to the laptop - is quoted a lot. However from the images I have seen (see attached e.g. '800px-FireWire_cables.jpg'), & the cord within the camcorder case (see attached 'Cable.gif'), I don't have a corresponding port on my laptop for anything to plug into!?!

How can I move the tape on to my laptop for editting (of which I'll move the final copy on to a dvd)??

I hope you don't mind these basic questions - I'm a tad confused..

    Thanks in advance.
