One tyre worn, other three fine?

    Hi,

I was looking at my tyres today and noticed that the front right is really worn, the outside thread is gone, thread in the middle is almost down to the bar that marks the lowest allowed thread. Thing is the other three tyres are fine, plenty of thread left.

I don't have a lot of miles on them, mostly driving round town. Any ideas what could have caused this? it's annoying because I will have to replace the tyre and then when the other three need replacing the new should still be ok....all out of balance :(

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Have you checked your tire pressures? The front right could be low.

    Could be you tracking?

I had same symptoms last year, turns out one of the suspension springs had snapped and caused one of the tyres to wear in 2 months.

Sounds like something is screwing up the suspension geometry. I'd say take it to a garage with the gear for laser alignment - it could just need ajustment, or it could be a worn/broken suspension component.

Thanks all, I'll ask the garage to take a good look at the tracking and suspension when fitting new tyre.

Im having a similar problem with my van. The outside of the front left tyre is like a slick at this stage, while the rest of the tyre is alright. Im planning to switch the front two around, and then when I eventually get around to fixing it, getting two brand new tyres.

I put it down to the tracking but I dont really know.

Let us know what they say Sconsey.

I'd say get it fixed tomorrow tbh. For one thing, if it's bad it could eat the other tyre in two weeks. For another, it's a safety problem- the available grip will be way down on that corner.
