Expedia ticket change query

I'm not 100% sure if I should post this here or not, but I thought you guys might know best.

I booked a flight through expedia.ie a few months ago. I rang them today to see if I could change the return flight to come out one day later instead. I know there's a charge for that and I dont mind paying it.
The flights I booked where with Aerlingus and American Airlines. The part of the flight I want to change is with Aerlingus.
I have the flight booked for a Sunday and I'd like to leave on the next Monday instead.

I phoned Expedia customer service today and they told me it would be €101 to change it. I was willing to pay this. However, they told me they had a clause that meant I could only change my flight to either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. They said it was a clause from Aerlingus.

I've never heard this before as I know I can change my flight to any day on the Aerlingus website.

Afterwards, I searched my email and the Expedia website to see if this clause was written anywhere. I cant find it. The only thing I found regarding changes is this, taken from Expedia.ie:

    2.2.3 Change of booking

If after making the booking you want to change the trip with respect to the date of travel, the destination, the place where the trip starts, the accommodation or the means of transport, please call 01 524 5005 or email customerservice@support.expedia.ie. A standard amendment fee may be charged in respect of each change made. Where a change affects more than one person on the booking, an amendment fee will be applied in relation to each person. Changes to your booking will normally involve a cost for us that is as high as the cost of cancelling the trip because the price of a new ticket or reservation can be higher than the price of the first ticket or reservation. We will charge you for these costs.

Can someone tell me if there's a way for me to change this? Should I be contacting Aerlingus or Expedia. If I could see it on the website it wouldn't be too bad (although a very stupid rule!) but seeing as I wasn't informed I think I should be allowed to change it.

Has anyone done this before or dealt with Expedia?

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.

Aer Lingus won't help you, as the booking is not with them directly.

Unless you booked a fully flexible ticket, you don't really have much of a comeback. Your ticket undoubtedly has conditions attached to the fare - though I've never heard of one that restricts it to particular days of travel. What you can and cannot do on the Aer Lingus website won't be particularily be relevant to the fares sold by an agency, which can have entirely different rules attached to them.

The oldest trick is to ring back and see if you get the same explanation from the next agent. If you do, there is obviously something going on - perhaps the fare in question is limited to specific days (where Aer Lingus have more capacity/seats available). If you don't get the same answer, then the first agent may have been taking out of their ass.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try ringing them back and see what happens.

I know there are restrictions and conditions to fares but shouldn't they be advertised? Usually I always check these before I confirm anything but I couldn't see anything mentioned about this. If it's there for me to see I dont mind but if it's not mentioned then surely I should be able to change my booking as normal?

I didn't think Aerlingus would be able to help me but they guy from Expedia says it's their condition and not Expedias. I dont know why they'd have it though. It just seems strange.

    Hi,

Just want to say that I rang back today and spoke to someone else.
They told me today that I could change the flight but it was full on that day.

I checked their website to see if I could book a flight on that day for the same airline and route and it was letting me proceed.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? I've sent an email to their manager but I'd like to know if I'll have a comeback.

I've been given to different and seemingly false reasons as to why I cant change it.

    Thanks.

There may be no seats available in the class you're booked. It could be one of a hundred things. Third time lucky?
