Anyone know if there's any BMW garage up North that will take a Southern reg trade in on one of their cars?

You might find that they will take your car but all they will be doing is passing it to the trade down here and you can expect to lose alot in the transaction. You are better off selling your car private at a very low price than trading in anywhere to be honest.

I haven't put it up anywhere yet and wasn't going to try because everyone says that nothing is shifting.
Sorry to ask what must be very basic questions but is there really much difference in buying up there? I am looking for a BMW 320d 2009 automatic?

A dealer will have nearly the same trouble shifting the car as you will so trading the car up North will make no difference.

The savings of buying up North are not that great now compared to say 18 months, cars have come down in price alot down here so shop around down here first.

Also if buying up North make sure the 09 car is more than 6 months old and has >6000km on the clock otherwise Revenue consider it to be new and will charge you VAT on top of VRT. An auto will also put the car into a higher VRT bracket than the manual.

Ok. I'll price around the various BMW dealers down South and see how I get on. Did a test drive in one the other day, God it was gorgeous.

    OP, what are you selling?

    Am I allowed reply?

It's a 2007 Mini Cooper S - chilli pack and all the add ons. You wouldn't believe how much it has devalued!

get best straight sale price dwon here.
Get best straight sale price in uk. Add vrt from revenue website, add a grand for the hassle and see how it works out taking a realistic currency conversion.
Then get trade in prices down here. You will then know exactly what you are really getting for your car (you might be shocked). Realise that you could easily sell it private for more than that amount.

How much are irish dealers looking for to change?

For 320d Auto with 2000 k on clock they were looking for €26k with my own!!! Ps mine only has 22k on clock.

First 2009 320d auto I see on uk websites was 24k sterling, roughly 27k euro allowing for 88p sterling/euro. Possibly much cheaper available.
Vrt is 7500 approx... say 8.5k to be safe. You would have to buy a car with more than 6000km on clock to avoid vat.
    1k for travel & hassle
Total = 36.5k on the road here. So if you sell your car private for more than 11k, you are winning. Wait til new year and the figures will fall even more in your favour.

Cheers. I think I will wait til Jan. See how I get on with a private sale. Surely to God I'd get better than 11k.

Cooper S is a slower seller than the Cooper due to insurance loading, and some dealers might be slow to trade one in. However they are a lovely car and you'd think a 07 should make more than 11k no problem.

You'd hope so, no guarantees though. I presume if I am prepared to put it on the market for 20k I should get some interest. Or am I fooling myself?

Keary's in Cork (Mini main dealer) have a 07 Cooper S with 27k miles for sale at 16,900 asking price. You'd expect to buy that for 16k, valeted, serviced and with a warranty. Is yours 22k miles or kms ? At 22k miles I'd say you'd have to price it at 15,900, to take 15k. That's how I would pitch it if I was trying to sell it.

Also bear in mind that it's very hard to sell anything over the 5-6k euro bracket these days due to difficulties for buyers to get finance.

Fair enough. Mine is 22 km.
Jeez prices have really gone down.

    I had a 2004 Mini Cooper that I bought in 2005 (5000 km) for 21.5 K. Sold it in 2007 for 18.5k.

    Times have changed.
