Hong Kong to Tibet - Itineraries?

    Hi all,

I am currently planning some travelling in China. I am currently in Hong Kong and want to end up in Tibet. I am very unfamiliar with China and was wondering if any of you had travelled this route and could suggest an itinerary. I have about 3 weeks, month max for the trip from HK to Tibet. When I have seen Tibet, I plan to travel the East coast via Beijing, down to Shanghai and down south to Guanzhou. I will then fly from there to Thailand.

I would like to spend at least a week in Tibet, so the journey from Hong Kong would be split up visiting towns/cities in between. I am on a tight enough budget so I would be staying in hostels and eating cheap food. I aim to see the country for its beauty, not to be in the pub every night if that helps the itinerary.

Have any of you done this?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I cant comment on Tibet coz Ive never been but most people seem to do a trek somewhere, visit Lhasa and maybe head to Everest Base Camp from the Tibetean side.

I can recommend Kumming (not a bad place for a couple of days and a lot more relaxed city than HK). Also Lijiang and Dali are two cool towns north of Kumming and also there is the Tiger Leaping Gorge trek which is spectactular.
