So whats the Law here. Are breaks required on a bike.
If you have a fixed wheel, the bike must have at least one brake. If neither wheel is fixed, there must be brakes on each wheel.

Having no brakes on a fixed gear is playing with fire. If the chain snapped you'd be in trouble. It really annoys me that people put themselves at risk to look cool. Fitting a single front brake not expensive and the only time brakeless "fixies" should see the light of day is on a track.

Amen to that. I've only seen one brakeless fixie here in Cork but it made my blood boil. Well i don't know if it was the bike or the state of the pretentious muppet riding it. Seriously where's the logic, hilliest city in Ireland so this guy decides a bike with no gears, freewheel or brakes is the best option.

I agree, I think its a bit crazy to do it, and I ride fixed all the time. You can fit a brake for emergencies, but still skid all you want.

Anyone ever seen Macaframa? Thats in San Francisco, much more serious hills than Cork, but they're all riding around brakeless.

It's not (yet) mandated in law, but regular pauses for cake are highly recommended.
